Even though it was hot and smoky at times, our coaches were able to instruct 64 able-bodied Junior Golfers during the program that was in operation Thursdays for six weeks.

The ages are from 5 through 15 years. We segregate them into three groups: ages 5 through 7, 8 through 10, and 11 through 15. Steve Lyons, Al Krugh, Wilbur Morton and myself instructed on the driving range. Roland Cababag, Rodger Hults Jr. and Jessie Bethke instructed on the putting green.

I appreciate the parents and grandparents for all their help with the program.

This will be my last year as Junior Golf coordinator, and I’m sorry to announce that. I’m hoping someone will step up to the tee and take over. I’ve been involved with Junior Golf for the past 20 years, and I think its time for new young blood. I’ve enjoyed very much working with our youth all these passed years. They’re fun to be with.

On Thursday, July 24, we had our awards luncheon. All our Junior Golfers received trophies, and we all devoured 20 pizzas from Wild River Brewing &Pizza Co. courtesy of Jerry & Bertha Miller.

And Shop Smart Food Warehouse also is appreciated for donating canned soft drinks and paper goods for everyone. Also appreciated is Illinois Valley Golf Association for allowing us to use its facilities.
