Ads in Illinois Valley News requesting piano donations for the Lorna Byrne Middle School (LBMS) and Illinois Valley High School (IVHS) music programs have paid off, according to musician Tim Wallace.

Wallace presented a Jazz workshop for LBMS students before summer break. The students were so enthusiastic about the music that Wallace placed ads in the I.V. News seeking donated pianos for the two schools.

Darlene & Sonny Ness, of O’Brien, donated a Yamaha Clavinova keyboard this month. IVHS Music Director Sean McKee tested the keyboard on Friday, July 18 and was thrilled to receive the keyboard for the school music program.

“Two fine quality acoustic pianos are still desired for concerts and public presentations by the high school,” said Wallace.

“However,” he said, “this quality digital keyboard will be most useful for classroom and rehearsals directed by Sean McKee. The memory portion of the keyboard will allow for advance accompaniments to be prepared so that McKee can then focus on rehearsing the live ensemble while the keyboard plays the background music with the touch of a button.”

McKee said that he is most grateful to Darlene & Sonny Ness for their thoughtful contribution.

To contact Wallace about a possible piano donation, email tim@twmusic.com or phone 592-2462. Wallace and McKee said that the schools remain eager to have pianos to enhance music classes and performances.
