Herman Eggers
Herman Eggers, 81, a former resident of Cave Junction, died June 25, 2008 in Olympia, Wash.

A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, July 3 at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 200 W. Watkins in Cave Junction.
He was born Jan. 5, 1927, to John Wesley & Emily Elizabeth (Height) Eggers, and raised in Illinois Valley. He moved to Oroville, Calif. in 1964 and returned to Cave Junction in 1991.
Mr. Eggers served in the U.S. Army as military policeman from 1945 to 1947 in St. Louis, Md. On June 29, 1947, in Cave Junction, he married the former Audrey Lucille Wynne. She died on July 4, 1990. He was a heavy equipment operator in the forestry industry. Among his hobbies were fishing, hunting, old cars and pinochle.
Mr. Eggers is survived by his son, Rick Eggers, of Olympia; a daughter, Thelma Jean Dick, of Meeker, Colo.; a sister, Francis Grey; three grandchildren; seven great-grand children; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Eugene Pius Dinkel
No services are planned for Cave Junction resident Eugene Pius Dinkel, 73, who died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at his home.

Mr. Dinkel was born on Feb. 26, 1935, in Victoria, Kan. to John Dinkel & Anna Leiker Dinkel. In 1958 in California he married Esther “Lorraine” Kennedy, who died in 1974. He then married Ellen Chamberlain, and they later divorced, but remained friends. He had three children from his first marriage, and four stepchildren from his second marriage.
As a young man, he worked in the oil fields of Kansas and Texas. In 1968 he moved to Illinois Valley, where he worked for Rough & Ready Lumber Co. and the former M&Y Lumber Co. in Selma. At the time of his retirement he was a self-employed flatbed truck driver and lived in Grants Pass.
In January 2008 he moved back to Cave Junction to live with his daughter due to illness. His hobbies included horseshoes, cribbage, dominos, going to Seven Feathers and spending time with family.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Dickson, of Cave Junction, and Anna Pendergrass, of Brush Prairie, Wash.; a son, Daniel Dinkel, of Grants Pass; his former wife; three step-children; and two grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Lorraine, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Shoemaker and Margaret Schultz; his parents; and a step-son.

Azlan Breeze
Azlan Breeze, 24, of Cave Junction, died Sunday, June 22, 2008, as the result of an automobile accident on Hwy. 199 in Illinois Valely.
Azlan was born June 25, 1983, in Bridgeville, Calif. Growing up, he lived in Grants Pass and Eugene, but spent the majority of his childhood in Illinois Valley, where he attended Selma Elementary School, Lorna Byrne Middle School and Illinois Valley High School. As an adult, he lived in Humboldt County in California; and Washington, D.C. before returning to Illinois Valley.
Azlan was a proficient horticulturist and loved the outdoors. Throughout his life he excelled at sports, and as an adult combined this with his talent for interacting with children and volunteered with the Illinois Valley Youth Soccer Program and the Dome School Rangers Program.
Azlan loved music and attended many reggae music festivals. He was a disc jockey with Takilma Radio, and a member of the Illuminated Fools Theater Troupe. Azlan also loved to travel and had been to Hawaii and Mexico.
He was a genuinely sweet human being who radiated joy and laughter. It is in their expression that he will be remembered by the vast circle of people who loved him.
Surviving are his daughter, Eliana Joy, of Longview, Calif.; mother Mary Wertz of Grants Pass; step-parents Dale Visinaiz, and Eve & Bruce Marsh, all of Takilma; sisters Katy Bockstiegel, of Kailua, Hawaii, Ivy Fink, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Alyisha Fink, of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers Cory Bockstiegel, of Takilma, Zach Wertz, of Grants Pass, Ore.; stepsister Melissa Marsh, of Eugene, stepbrother Nolan Bockstiegel, of Takilma; grandparents Fred & Nora Wertz, of New Hope, Penn., and Richard & Noy Fink, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many more extended family members and friends.
A graveside service was held Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Laurel Cemetery in Cave Junction. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
