CONCERT IN THE PARK
- Guitarist and vocalist Dale Hopper, of O’Brien, will perform Thursday, June 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Jubilee Park in Cave Junction. His song styling will be part of the annual Concerts in the Park series sponsored by Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce. Soft drinks, barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs also will be available. Concert-goers should bring their own chairs. On Thursday, July 10 (no concert on Thursday, July 3) the concert will be presented by Broadway Phil & The Shouters.
KERBY EVENT
- Southern Oregon Guild has planned An Evening of Art & Wine in Kerby for Friday, June 27 from 5 to 8. A number of businesses will feature art and artists of various media. There will be grape libations from Bridgeview Vineyards Winery, Windridge/Bendock Estate Wines, and Draper Valley Vineyard.
‘SHARING DREAMS’
- Only a few days remain before the Monday, June 30 deadline to sign up for a special event sponsored by the Junior Savings Program & Education Trust. Sharing American Dreams will be held Saturday, July 12 at Bridgeview Vineyards Winery. There will be hors d’oeuvres and wine-tasting, plus a Gold Digger Barbecue meal by Taylor’s Sausage. Tickets are available by phoning Les & Pat Lesiecki, co-founders of Junior Savings, at 592-2999. Their goal is to raise capital for an education trust to provide low-interest loans to students who participate in the Junior Savings program.
ALUMNI ALERT
- More than 300 alumni and family members of Illinois Valley High School (IVHS) and Kerby Union High School (KUHS) are aiming for Reunion ‘08. It’ll be held from Friday, July 4 through Sunday, July 6 at various valley locations. The program is organized by The Association of IVHS Alumni & Friends of KUHS Alumni Inc. Coming for the cornucopia of recollections are members and family members from the classes of 1948, ‘53, ‘56 ‘58, ‘63, ‘73, ‘78, ‘88 and ‘98. Besides the annual dance at the Junction Inn, there will be a Texas Hold ‘Em event sponsored by I.V. Wrestling Club at The Lions Den at I.V. Airport, a tournament at I.V. Golf Course, and a guided tour of Kerbyville Museum. There also will be various gatherings at private homes and restaurants. The program will conclude July 6 at Jubilee Park with a breakfast, silent auction and annual meeting.

- Grants Pass Family YMCA donated 10 passes to the Illinois Valley High School Class of 2008. The first 10 graduates who bring their diplomas to the Bi-Rite Auto Parts store behind Michelle’s Family Restaurant will be given a pass. Each is good for five visits.

Super Kids Summer Fun is the theme for a free day program sponsored by I.V. Safe House Alliance. It’s running to July 17 for those ages 4 to 10. Phone 592-2515 ... The tourist count at I.V. Visitor Center during May was 1,063 representing a decrease of 48 from May 2007, reports Dulcie Moore, I.V. Chamber of Commerce secretary ... Jen Ambrose and the Rock Project will perform Tuesday, July 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Riverside Park in a GP Chamber free concert ...KOBI-TV NBC 5 and KOTI-TV NBC 2 have won the 2007 Northwest Regional Emmy Award for Station Community Service for the “Southern Oregon Meth Project” ... Grants Pass is ranked 67th out of 200 top selections by Outdoor Life magazine as “Best Places To Live” for hunters and anglers. None of the top 10 are in Oregon, but Klamath Falls is ranked 33rd ...
