New chapter beginning for libraries

From our weekly issue dated June 11, 2008

A concentrated effort aimed at gaining financial support from those in Josephine County who want to see the libraries reopen is under way.

A countywide mass mailing, sponsored by Josephine Community Libraries Inc. (JCLI), arrived during the past several days. The county’s public libraries closed May 17, 2007, due to lack of funding from the county.

JCLI’s vision is a library system “free to all, open full time, and filled with the newest materials and equipment possible. We propose a model based on public radio and television, in which we offer memberships -- but everybody has full access to the library, regardless of membership status.”
