WALK, NOT TALK - Illinois Valley Pregnancy Center is sponsoring its annual Walk For Life at I.V. High School on Saturday, June 14. Registration at the football field will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the walk at 11, then refreshments at noon. Walkers are to obtain signed pledge forms prior to the event to help support the pregnancy center’s free programs. Walkers are not to collect money; the center staff will do that later. OLDIES FOR DADDIES - There’ll be free admission for fathers to Kerbyville Museum-Heritage Center of Illinois Valley, when accompanied by a paying adult, on Father’s Day on Sunday, June 15. The museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children younger than 5 will be admitted free. Besides the museum, with its outstanding collection of early day items, including military memorabilia, the grounds include the 1871 completely furnished Stith-Naucke house. GRAPPLER GOLF - A three-man scramble best-ball tournament will be held Saturday, June 14 at Illinois Valley Golf Course. The fund-raiser is being sponsored to benefit the state championship Illinois Valley wrestling team, and I.V. Wrestling Club. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.; golfing at 9. The fee per person will pay for “prizes, chow, and keg on a cart.”

WEED WARRIORS - Free training to recognize invasive weeds will be held Saturday, June 21 by Forestry Action Committee (FAC) and The Nature Conservancy. Training will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Butler Bldg. in the lower compound of the U.S. Forest Service facility in Cave Junction. The presentation will include live specimens to study, followed by a field trip to several sites. Snacks will be provided, but participants can bring lunches, as the training will end by 1 p.m. at the Rough and Ready Creek Preserve. FOUR WAY FUNDING - Three Illinois Valley-based organizations are among recipients of 2008 grants from The Four Way Community Foundation of Grants Pass. IVCDO (Illinois Valley Community Development Organization) received $12,200 for kitchen equipment; I.V. Family Coalition received $1,688 for an automatic door opener for handicapped persons; Southern Oregon Guild got $2,000 for relocating the gallery and artists center. And Crater Lake Council of Boy Scouts of America was granted $7,000 for a pavilion and parking at Camp McCaleb out Illinois River Road. Overall, with grants and scholarships, the foundation gave $332,773 to organizations and high school senior students in Josephine and Jackson counties.

NOTEPAD - Junior Golf signups will be conducted Saturday, June 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Illinois Valley Golf Course. Six weeks of Thursday lessons will begin June 19 for youth 5 to 15 years old.
