Evergreen students honored for reading, attendance achievements

Evergreen Elementary School honored several outstanding students during an assembly on Monday, June 9.

Ian Birchfield, a fifth-grader, was singled out as Evergreen Student of the Year. He is the son of Wendy Littleton, of O’Brien, and Bill Birchfield.

Fifth-grader Faith Kitchens was honored as Rotary Club of Illinois Valley Student of the Year. She is the daughter of Kiley & Molly Kitchens.

Kynan Nordal, daughter of Dr. Jim & Ginger Nordal, of Cave Junction, received an award for two years of perfect attendance. She is in the fourth grade.

Recognized for one year of perfect attendance were Odis Kitchens, Patrick Allen, Meron Jonas, Rozina Jonas and Amy Burns.

Winners of the Bikes for Books competition were given new bicycles from the Kerby Belt Masonic Lodge. The winners were Cheyene Nichols, Joseph Spielman, Tessa Turner, Heather Bemis, Laramie Smith, Jordan Campbell, and Mikael Cusamano.

The program required that students read 16 books during the year. Some 54 students in first through fifth grades participated.
