Dads & Grads highlight for Art Walk 13th

Mark your calendar for June 13 from 5 to 8 p.m., as Second Friday Art Walk will celebrate Dads and Grads with family fun sponsored by the Illinois Valley Section of the Boys & Girls Club.
The club’s “Make Your Own Card” activity will run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the front hall of the Josephine County Bldg. And there will be an information table from The Glass Rail Outfit in front.
Across the street, Special Productions will feature Virgil Jines’ one-of-a-kind custom lamps and a special lamp repair “clinic.”

Illinois Valley Visitor Center will host June’s Featured Artist, DeLos “Sonny” Ness, displaying his elegant wooden bowls, organizers and knick-knacks. Be sure to arrive early as there will be sturdy plant starts from I.V. Garden Club, then linger to enjoy classical and flamenco music from Sue Williams and other members of the Jefferson Classical Guitar Society.
Reservations are being accepted for dinner at the Oregon Caves Chateau on Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, where the evening also will feature a concert by members of this outstanding group.

At the other end of town, in Western Plaza, Curves and Back Street Salon are teaming to offer a sidewalk sale of jewelry and crafts from member artisans. Rock out with Ross Welcome and Pacific Oracle while perusing items at these booths.
Phone 592-4277 to schedule an “ArtWalk Special” NRG foot detox session from Rebecca. Curves is offering free exercise sessions for “daughters” when accompanied by members through October.
The Upstairs Art Gallery above Bagel Junction will feature new works by Gabriella Salas-Groth and a display of “Learning Through Art” (LTA) Africa Project student activities. Student-crafted book markers will be available to benefit the LTA program. African musical instruments, a culinary display and free food samples also will be available.
In the same building, Peace of Mind Wellness Center will have an open house. Visitors are encouraged to use the outside stairs at the rear of the building, which also houses the state liquor store.
Embroidered Adaptations gift shop will welcome “Sparrow” and Studio Brigandu featuring high-quality Medieval-inspired clothing, leatherwork and jewelry. Next door, Ravenswood Gallery’s Open House again will sponsor a musician jam with “Matty, Sunrise & Dave.”
Six valley artists will be represented, with work ranging from burlwood and leather designs to art glass and contemporary wall art.
The Community Media & Education Center will present new paintings by Lane Cosner, masks by Jill Talise, and selections from David Steiner’s tribal and ceremonial mask collection. A spaghetti dinner is scheduled for 7 pm.; donations will be gladly accepted. Music by Stevie and Friends will add to the festivities.
Changes Art Gallery will host “A Black and White Affair” with new mixed-media work by Kay Ekwall. Next door, Amazon Queen Boutique offers everything from jeans to opera wear for plus-sized women. Special guest Debbie Wilson’s intricate and unique hand-painted jewelry designs are sure to amaze.
Taylor’s Country Store will host Country rocker Kent Stephenson from Humboldt County. Cave Junction artist Bruce Stone will display a few of his “Pet Portraits” and will be on hand to discuss commissioned representations of your favorite critters. The Taylor’s dinner menu will include prime rib, fish tacos and regular entrees.
Across the street at the Senior Thrift Shop, Dr. Jim Nordal of Cave Junction Family Medicine will give a pottery demonstration between 5 and 7 p.m.

Mid-town performances will include exotic belly dancing by “Melissa” at Nacho Mama’s Cantina, which will offer its full menu and bar until 10 p.m. Next-door Tropical Island Tans will present O’Brien residents Anwyn & George Leverett’s playing their Around the Hearth Celtic and Old World music on their own handcrafted instruments.
June art displays during regular business hours include Dorothea Hover-Kramer’s landscapes in acrylic at Home Valley Bank; and a new sterling silver jewelry collection crafted by Michael Yanase of Yanase Jewelers at Eye Care Group on Caves Hwy.
Home Valley Bank is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 6 p.m. on Fridays. The Eye Care Group is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
