'3rd Alarm' bottled water
Hoping to make a big splash, the Illinois Valley Volunteer Firefighters Association is announcing its own brand of bottled water, “3rd Alarm.”
A grand introduction of “3rd Alarm” is set for Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7, on the parking lot at Shop Smart Food Warehouse in Cave Junction.
I.V. Fire District volunteer firefighters will offer a hot dog & water combo for a low introductory price -- “A dog and a water for two and a quarter” -- to build public awareness. “The public can come have a look and support I.V. firefighters by making a purchase,” said Firefighter Jeff Bradshaw, project spokesman for the volunteers’ association.

The volunteer association uses its treasury to acquire items not paid for by the district. For example, said Bradshaw, the association has purchased a dry suit for swift water rescues, and Res-Q-Jack equipment for use at various emergencies.
The firefighters’ water bottles have their own label design and bar code for inventory at valley retailers.
“Anybody can support us just by selecting our product over the ‘big guys’,” said Bradshaw.
“It’s a great way to support your firefighters and get an immediate return on your investment, especially when it costs the same as the product next to it.”

“Reach For Us First, For That 3rd Alarm Thirst” was developed for the slogan emblazoned across the label. In firefighter terms, first alarm is the initial call, second alarm is, “We need help,” and third alarm is, “We need more water now!”
Spring water was selected for “3rd Alarm,” as was the Oregon location. The 16.9-ounce product is bottled at the source in Forest Grove, bordering Tillamook State Forest. Along with the eye-catching logo, there is space available on the label for advertisers.
Although the product is limited to Illinois Valley, the advertising is open to any business anywhere. Information is available from Bradshaw at 597-4812.
Aside from retailers, the volunteer association will retail “3rd Alarm” itself during as many local events as members can attend.
Bradshaw hopes to interest other fire-fighting agencies in the project. They can create their own brand, and he said that he will assist with product procurement and marketing strategies. He also would work to inform them of how to meet IRS status reporting requirements.
