Richard A. Johannes

A private service will be held for O’Brien resident Richard Alex Johannes, 72, who died at home on Monday, May 5, 2008.

Mr. Johannes was born on June 12, 1935, in Fresno, Calif.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Johannes, of O’Brien; two sons, Matthew Johannes, of O’Brien, and Daniel Johannes, of Riverside, Calif.; a daughter, Ann Margaret Johannes, of Black Diamond, Wash.; a grandson; and two granddaughters.

Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives is in charge of arrangements.

Jack Sanders

Former Stoney Front Tavern co-owner John “Jack” Sanders, 70, of Cave Junction, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at his home. A memorial graveside service will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, May 16 at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Sanders was born on May 10, 1937, in Lewiston, Maine to Milford & Lucy Sanders. As a child he moved with his family to Brookings. From Jan. 4, 1955 to April 15, 1958 he served in the U.S. Navy.

On Aug. 13, 1958, in Gold Beach he married Loretta Mae Brey. In 1972, he moved to White City, and in 1981 to Cave Junction. He was a self-employed log truck driver, and as a driver for RB Brown and Rick Robertson, retiring the year of the Biscuit Fire in 2002.

With his wife he owned and operated the Stoney Front Tavern in Kerby for 20 years. His hobbies included fishing on the coast, hunting, playing cribbage, and working on his computer.

Besides his wife, Loretta M. Sanders, he is survived by four sons, Raymond Sanders, Robert Sanders, Richard Sanders and Rodney Sanders; and a daughter, Kathy Valentine, all of Cave Junction; a brother, Norman “Corky” Sanders, of Santa Clara, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter in 1986.
