Drive for green with ‘Dollar Days’ at I.V. Golf site
From our weekly issue dated May 7, 2008
“Dollar Days” at the course in Cave Junction have been announced by Illinois Valley Golf Association (IVGA) “in appreciation of all who have supported affordable golf in Illinois Valley since the founding of the association in the 1970s.”
The special period of low golfing rates -- Community Appreciation Dollar Days -- will be effective to June 30, 2008 for students, faculty or staff at any school in the region. They can bring their school ID and play for only 50-cents per hole; and those older than 65 can play for 75-cents per hole.
For everyone else in the region, the golfing cost will be $1 per hole. Carts are $1 per hole; pull carts and rental clubs are $1 per round; and range balls are $1 for a small bucket. There also are special prices for hot dogs and domestic beer.

Last fall, IVGA announced the pending sale of its nine-hole course to Manor Community Development Co. of Lodi, Calif. The firm stated its intent to integrate the current nine holes into nine new holes to be built surrounding new homes adjacent to the current IVGA golf course property.
The project is planned to include a large, upscale RV park, commercial development along U.S. Hwy. 199 (Redwood Hwy.), a new club house facility, and significant upgrades to make the course a premier golf destination. It’s anticipated that the project will begin in approximately a year and take at least five years to complete.
Noted Marv Ahlers, new IVGA board chairman, “There is no time like the present to enjoy spring’s finest scenery and play golf with rates rivaling those on the day we opened the course for public play some 30 years ago.

“While all the changes in the future will open a new era for golfers in the Southern Oregon region, Community Appreciation Dollar Days is our way of expressing our gratitude for past support.”
Added Kit Fluke, outgoing board chairman, “We have a special offer for those who join, renew or extend their membership during this special event as well. The developer agreed to grandfather in all IVGA members for a period of five years at the current posted rates, even though the new 18-hole course will be a significant upgrade.”
“We want as many people in the region as possible to take advantage of this generous opportunity, so anyone who joins, renews, or extends membership during this special event may do so by making a one-time, nonrefundable payment of 50 percent of the current posted annual member rates so long as the full payment is received between May 1 and June 30, 2008.”
Ahlers added, “Also during this event all members, new or existing, can bring guests for 50-cents per hole per guest. Through these specials we also hope to introduce those who may be new to the area to our golf site even if they have not played for years.
“We are excited about all the improvements that will begin to become visible this summer, but will really kick into high gear in spring 2009.”
Illinois Valley Golf Course is at the corner of 199 and Laurel Road in Kerby, 28 miles southwest of Grants Pass between historic Kerby and Cave Junction. Phone 592-3151 for tee times or for more information. The special rates require a nine-hole minimum round.
