Tropical Island Tans Salon & Boutique moved to its new location at 131 N. Redwood Hwy., in-between Nacho Mama’s and Bear Images and across from Munchiez’, in October 2007. The building was totally remodeled, with new wood flooring, cabinets, plumbing and heating system.

New rooms were built, including three with tanning beds, one waxing room, one facial room, and a nail room with a powerful exhaust fan.

The goal -- to have a one-stop shop for beauty needs available for Illinois Valley citizens so that they don’t have to drive to Grants Pass or Medford -- has been accomplished.

Owner JoAnn Scroggins handles clothing and tanning; and her daughter, Jamie Navarro, does nails, facials and waxing. Hair services, including color and perms, are provided by Brittaney, Deanna and Emi.

Scroggins said that she “is very grateful for the group of girls we have working in the shop … couldn’t have planned it better.” Brittaney drives from Grants Pass because she likes the family atmosphere at the shop and in the valley.

Tropical Island Tans Salon & Boutique now offers expanded beauty services, including manicures, pedicures, wax, facial, and hair cut and shampoo. They are currently working on Beauty Pamper packages.

Some of the facial services offered utilize ingredients such as St. Johns Wort, olive oil and olive leaf. Their “Signature Four Layer Facial” uses pure, fresh, European seaweed to rejuvenate, tone and help firm skin dramatically.

Other services coming soon will include chemical peels, electrotherapy and body wraps. There are many tanning packages to suit different needs. Gift certificates are available from all stylists; and there are special “Mother’s Day of Beauty” certificates.

Although most customers are local, tourists are stopping to purchase items including clothing, handbags and sunglasses that are designer-inspired at bargain prices. Junior-size clothing, bathing suits, sunglasses, tanning lotions, jewelry, hand-made scarves and hats also are available.

A grand reopening during mid- to late-May will celebrate a full house of staff, with all services up and running 100 percent and good to go.

Tropical Island Tans Salon & Boutique will participate in Second Friday Art Walk in Downtown Cave Junction starting in May, displaying children’s art. When the weather improves, live bands are in the works.

Monthly specials are listed at www.Myspace.com/isletans.

Normal operating hours are Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; closed Sundays. After-hours appointments can be made by phoning 592-2510. A senior citizen discount is offered.
