Cougars field Academic Masters team

Academic Masters competition will be held at Grants Pass High School on Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m.. The public can attend free.
Participants from IVHS will be Morgan Brown, a junior; and seniors Mideon Hoffman, Forrest Roth, Dustan Gumaer and Douglas Hoskins.
*Morgan is the daughter of Troy & Michelle Brown. She has participated in varsity softball and basketball, Chamber Choir, Cougar Pals and the Guiding Lights Mentor program. She has raised a guide dog for the blind and is currently the Associated Student Body secretary.

It will be Morgan’s first time competing in music for Academic Masters. She is as yet unsure of what she will be doing after high school, but knows she’ll be attending a university after graduation. She hopes to continue music and softball in college.
*Mideon is the son of Marc & Susan Hoffman. He is a member of the Mathletes team, Academic Challenge team, and IVHS Chapter of National Honor Society.
This will be Mideon’s second time competing for IVHS for this competition, as he placed third in the science division last year. He has a 4.09 GPA, and after graduation in June he plans to attend Oregon State University (OSU) at Corvallis to study business.

*Forrest is the son of John Roth & Tina Wright. He has maintained a 3.94 GPA. He is a member of the Brain Bowl team, Leadership Class, National Honor Society, Academic Challenge team, Prom Committee and mountain bike team.
He has received the Cougar Pride award, Principal’s Student of the Month award and is an OASSA Honors student in English. He placed first in the Three Rivers School District Spelling Bee last year.
Forrest plans to attend the University of Oregon at Eugene to study journalism.
*Dustan is the son of Robert & Caryn Gumaer. He has participated on the cross country and wrestling teams, Brain Bowl, Mathletes, yearbook staff and Leadership. He has achieved his CIM and will graduate from IVHS in June.
Dustan then plans to attend OSU to major in pre-pharmacy. He said that he enjoys medium-rare sirloin and long walks on the beach under the moonlight.
*Doug is the son of Michelle Hendrix & William Hoskins. He has been a member of the football, basketball, baseball and track teams, Mathletes, National Honor Society, and Cougar Pals.
The Skyline Conference has honored him with a Second Team Defensive Back Honorable Mention, Guard Honorable Mention, Infielder (twice) and Honorable Mention Outfielder. He has also received the Most Valuable Player award in basketball and Most Valuable Player in baseball three times.
After graduation Doug will attend OSU next fall to study engineering.
