Friday, April 4
*Following a complaint from O’Brien, a man was warned against telephonic harassment and trespassing.
*A man who showed a badge and claimed to be a retired NYPD officer was warned for VBR (violation of the basic rule/driving too fast for conditions) and failure to maintain lane on Redwood Hwy. at milepost 26 at 12:13 p.m. A phone number was provided for an archive unit to check his claim, but it was said that records don’t go back that far.
*In Cave Junction a woman complained that her husband, from whom she recently separated, broke into her home and changed the door locks.
*A 13-year-old girl was reported as a runaway person.
*Three handguns were reported stolen from a W. River Street address.
*At 6:49 p.m. an assault was said to have occurred on Hogue Drive, but the alleged victims and assailants left prior to a deputy’s arrival.
*After a circuitous chase around Draper Valley Road, Hwy. 199 and Hogue Drive, Robin Marie Scott, 39, was cited on charges of driving with a suspended license (DWS), felony eluding and resisting arrest. Scott was lodged in Josephine County Jail.
*An anonymous complainant stated that some Selma residents were “selling drugs to teen-agers,” and complained about vehicle traffic.
*At 10:32 p.m. Peter A. Struyck, 55, and three other people were contacted at Illinois River “Forks” State Park. All were warned about violating park hours, and Struyck was cited to appear on charges of possession of a controlled substance (PCS): methamphetamine and psilocybin mushrooms, and a misdemeanor warrant charging contempt of court.
Saturday, April 5
*A Cave Junction woman reported her father’s car stolen and provided suspect information. Later, the victims received word that their vehicle had been dropped off at a friend’s house. They advised that they would recover the vehicle themselves, and would decide later whether to press charges.
*On Illinois River Road, a 45-year-old man was warned about improper tag validation and failure to extinguish a campfire.
*Four people were advised of open hours at “Forks” State Park at 8:23 p.m. and they moved on.
*Jerry K. Arnold, 66, was cited on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUII) on Redwood Hwy. at Caves Hwy. at 9:11 p.m.
*On Takilma Road, a man reported that his wife hit him, and that he ran off into some woods. Both parties, when contacted, agreed to separate for the evening.
Sunday, April 6
*A woman reported that a man broke her cell phone and took her purse. This followed a conversation picked up by a cell phone and overheard by the call-taker in which the man seemed to be threatening the woman. When contacted in the 200 block of Caves Hwy. the woman decided not to pursue charges.
*In CJ it was reported that a baby-sitter refused to turn children over to their mother who arrived intoxicated at 2:20 a.m. to pick them up. A resident said that the angry parents were tearing up the outside of the house.
*At 2:27 a.m. a disturbance was reported outside of a bar, where an intoxicated man said that other patrons had told him to leave or they would “mess him up.”
*A woman in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. reported a prowler at 2:32 a.m. A check of the area around and under her trailer revealed no source for the problem.
*At 2 a.m. a man phoned from a store in Selma to say that he wanted an ambulance to give him a ride to a Deer Creek Road residence. He was told the ambulance only goes to the hospital. He said he was going to start walking, but that he was waiting for deputy contact.
*At 2:58 a.m. a caller from Deer Creek Road said that a man broke a window and entered her residence. Her husband drove the man off, she said, but the trespasser, who was wearing camouflage and appeared intoxicated, was still in the roadway. Subsequently, Richard William Wagner was cited on a charge of second-degree criminal mischief, and given a ride, just as he’d asked for at 2 a.m.
*At 8:23 a.m. a man phoned 911 to apologize for his behavior for the past two weeks, and stated he would never again bother the police or 911.
*The subject of a criminal mischief call earlier was reported to have broken into a pickup truck at a construction site in O’Brien at 3:48 p.m. Another caller said that the man was causing trouble in the middle of Lone Mountain Road, and would likely get himself killed. Someone eventually transported the problem individual to the rest area near Collier Tunnel. There he was contacted by law enforcement who recovered a stolen pair of prescription sunglasses from him.
*Upset that his wife
hadn’t left a note saying she was going to church, a 94-year-old Selma man packed his belongings, and left the residence, causing his family much concern. It was reported that he later returned, having had second thoughts about leaving.
*Cathryn Patricia Nein, 41, was lodged at Three Rivers Community Hospital on a peace officer’s mental hold.
*In the 38000 block of Redwood Hwy. a man who appeared “out of it” entered a residence and demanded an ambulance because of a hip injury. The man, Richard W. Wagner, 48, was cited on charges of second-degree criminal mischief, and after he admitted to the theft of sunglasses earlier in the day, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and second-degree theft.
Monday, April 7
*A driver reported his van stuck in snow somewhere west of O’Brien on Lone Mountain Road. The sheriff himself located the man, his van and wife, and transported them to Brookings.
*Someone attempted to break window glass at a business in Downtown CJ, but no entry was gained.
*In the 29000 block of Redwood Hwy. an unwelcome person was staying in a motorhome parked nearby.
*Following up on a report of young people drinking alcohol in a car near Jubilee Park, Anthony Grebisz, 19, was cited on a warrant charging failure to comply on a DUII charge.
*Michael C. Hamond, 41, was cited on a charge of DWS in the 200 block of Caves Hwy. at 7:43 p.m.
Tuesday, April 8
*Contacted in the brush behind a residence on Merlot Drive, Timothy Roy Wilcox, 25, was lodged in Josephine County Jail on charges of PCS and DCS methamphetamine and a restraining order violation; he also was cited on warrants charging failure to appear on charges of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, fourth-degree assault and strangulation.
*Gregory Wayne Samply, 55, was lodged in Josephine County Jail on a charge of violating parole.
*Theft of a flagless 25-foot tall flag pole was reported from Raymond Street.
*While discussing a property line issue with a neighbor, a Selma resident said, the man hit him with his car and then assaulted him with fists. A report for fourth-degree assault would follow.
*It was reported that a man and woman were engaged in a physical argument in the 28000 block of Redwood Hwy.
*Passed out on the sidewalk in Downtown CJ, a man was warned about disorderly conduct and open container laws.
*Five firearms were reported stolen from a Pinewood Way residence.
*British Columbia resident Samantha Michele Buirs, 20, was cited on a charge of speeding (85 in a 55 mph zone) in the 22000 block of Redwood Hwy.
*A 17-year-old Illinois Valley High School student was charged as a minor in possession of alcohol after it was reported that she gave vodka to three other students. She claimed she purchased it from a transient individual.
*A coin collection reportedly valued at $60,000 was reported stolen from a Kerby Mainline residence.
*On Briar Lane, a man reported that his brother-in-law was intoxicated and causing a disturbance.
*Her drunken boyfriend was at her home causing a disturbance, an East River Street resident said at 11:09 p.m.
*Deputies stood by while a man retrieved his belongings from his sister’s residence on Briar Lane. The man was issued “his final warning” about misusing 911.
Wednesday, April 9
*A red Toyota was found rolled and totally wrecked after it was reported stolen from Downtown CJ overnight.
*Theft of a chainsaw from a Shadowbrook Drive residence was reported.
*Several miles up Caves Hwy. a caller reported seeing some men removing and coiling cable. The caller was concerned due to reports of theft of telephone line to Oregon Caves National Monument.
*Two boys were said to have messed with stakes from the construction area near Laurel Road and Redwood Hwy., throwing them onto the roadway.
*A civil dispute about use of a driveway was attended to on Caves Hwy.
*An Oregon State Police bomb technician attempted to detonate what appeared to be a pipe bomb chained to a tree out Illinois River Road. The foot-long piece of PVC with red wire sticking out turned out to be empty.
*Heather Louis Davis, 40, was cited on charges of DWS and driving uninsured on Redwood Hwy. at Hogue Drive at 9:50 p.m.
*“Illegal fireworks,” said disturbing to horses, were reportedly set off in the 5000 block of Westside Road for the better part of the day.
