‘FIRST RESPONDER’ - A free “First Responder” course through the 21st Century Program at Illinois Valley High School will begin Monday, March 31. It’s in partnership with Rogue Community College, Area Health Education Center, and Southern Oregon Education Service District. The course is a long-distance interactive video course on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. Instructors will be available for certain classes. The course is open to IVHS students who will be 16 by completion of the course in early June; plus staff, parents and guardians. To register, phone Deborah Murphy at 592-2866.

OH, ‘WOW’ - A free “Women Of Worth” (WOW) program for women and young children is set for Wednesday, April 2 by Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance. Scrapbooking for moms is on the schedule for 4 p.m., with kids being able to make a frame for their favorite photo. Coffee, juice and cookies will be provided at the Cave Junction site (former location of Home Valley Bank next to the DMV office). For child-care and transportation assistance phone 592-2515.

CLUB KID - Various events are set for next week, as Boys & Girls Club Week will be celebrated. On Monday, March 31 Siskiyou Field Institute will conduct an adventure, education and discovery class. Tuesday will feature a two-ball hoop tourney at Evergreen Elementary School for youth 6 to 18; and a rocket demo will be held Wednesday at the school. On Thursday, April 3 there will be a clubwide talent show and parent night at Evergreen beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be a dance for seventh- and eighth-graders Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and parent chaperones are needed.

The club, open to the community Tuesdays from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Evergreen school, is available for visits by the public to meet members and staff.

SENIOR SHOT- The Illinois Valley High School safe graduation night party will benefit from a program open to the public on Saturday, April 12. For the fund-raiser, donations of silent auction items are sought. The auction will be part of the program including dinner and a fashion show by senior students. NOTEPAD - The Booster Club for valley public school club sports and related support will meet publicly on Wednesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. in the I.V. High cafeteria … “What About Me?” is the title for the After the Violence program open to the public on Thursday, April 3 at 4 p.m. at the I.V. Safe House Alliance building. Child-care and transportation aid are available; phone 592-2515 … The free lunch at Evergreen Elementary School on Tuesday, April 8 is only for students, their families and school staff, said Principal David Valenzuela. The lunch will be part of a special Sodexho Farm to Market event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. ... The Maltese Falcon will be shown at Rogue Theatre in Grants Pass on Friday, April 11 as part of Evergreen Federal Bank’s murder mystery weekend on the 12th and 13th. Free movie tickets will be available Wednesday, April 9 at Evergreen’s CJ location and other branches … T-shirts: *We’ll always be friends.
