FLOAT YOUR BOAT - Especially for boat owners, a free Vessel Safety Check, sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, will be held in Cave Junction Saturday March 22. The safety checks will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Fountain of Life Assembly of God Church parking lot at the corner of S. Junction Avenue and Caves Hwy. EASTER ‘EGGSTRAVAGANZA’ - Illinois Valley Lions Club will present a free Easter Sunday program at Jubilee Park in Cave Junction on March 23. Including the Easter Bunny, there will be special attractions from 11 a.m. to at least 1 p.m., with the hunt for goodies beginning at 1 when “the whistle will blow.” There will be three age groupings for youngsters in their quest for treats hidden in the grass: 5 and younger, 6 to 8, and 9 to 12. Prior to the search for candy, toys and prizes, the I.V. Lions train will provide free rides, and I.V. Fire District will have equipment on-site with personnel including Chief Harry Rich. There will be a K-9 from Josephine County Sheriff’s office, plus Sheriff Gil Gilbertson. (See the ad on page 13).

IT’S A WOW - A free presentation Wednesday, March 26 at 4 p.m. by an expert gardener, and a chance for young children to plant a flower in the pots that they’ll make during a 6 p.m. session on Wednesday, March 19, is set for the eighth installment of the Women Of Worth (WOW) series. Sponsored by Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance, the free programs are provided at 103 S. Kerby Ave., (former site of Home Valley Bank) in Cave Junction. The activities are for women and children only. Veggies and dip will be provided the 26th. Child-care and transportation assistance are available.  Phone 592-2515 to make arrangements.

‘DIPLOMATIC’ AID - Donations of silent auction items to benefit the IVHS safe graduation night party are sought. The auction will be part of a fund-raiser with dinner and a fashion show by senior students on Saturday, April 12. To donate, or for more information, phone Bi-Rite Auto Parts at 592-3691.

BREAST CANCER FIGHT - Digital mammography, the cutting-edge technology in the fight against breast cancer through early detection, is available at women’s imaging centers in Grants Pass and Medford, said Asante Health System. Some $3.4 million has been invested in the new equipment. Both centers offer appointments weekdays, and the Medford site also has evening and Saturday times. PLANT GURUS - The Josephine County Master Gardeners organization has new Plant Clinic hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Those with questions about gardening can speak with qualified persons for assistance. “We are open to serve by telephone or by people coming in person,” it is stated.  Additionally, the organization will have a booth at Selma Farmers Market when it opens on Sundays later this year.

YO: CHAUTEAU - Two special packages as part of the 2008 Year of the Cave Bear celebration are offered by The Chateau at Oregon Caves. Dates are May 8 to 22 and May 26 to June 19, subject to availability. Each package includes two tickets for the Cave tour. The “Cave Bear” is comprised of lodging for one night, a breakfast buffet, and full dinner for two.
