There is a free lunch! Visit Evergreen cafeteria April 8

From our weekly issue dated March 19, 2008

A special Farm to Market program -- including a free lunch -- will be presented at Evergreen Elementary School Tuesday, April 8 for parents and students.

The gymnasium and cafeteria will be transformed into a carnival-like atmosphere featuring agricultural and dairy products that promote good nutrition.

“We are proud to welcome the Oregon State dairy princess, a local farmer, an executive chef, OSU agricultural expert and a nutritionist who will show and explain just how products get from the farm to your local market,” said Evergreen. “Our major theme for the day will be healthy living through good nutrition.”

Every student will receive a packet of nutrition information and a bag with some fun reminders of their experience at Farm to Market.

All students will choose their lunch from the A to Z Salad Bar, a huge selection of fresh and dried fruits and vegetables. Sliced meat, cheese, fresh rolls, milk and juice also will be offered to round out the menu.

In addition, lunch will be free to all. “That’s correct,” said sponsors, “your child will not need money or a lunch from home. Lunch on April 8 is complimentary to all students, staff, and visitors at Evergreen Elementary.

“Of course, if your child has dietary concerns or just prefers to bring a sack lunch from home that is perfectly fine. He or she may still take from the fruit and vegetable bar and a beverage for free.

“We encourage all parents, grandparents and siblings to join us for this fun and educational event.”
