From our weekly issue dated March 19, 2008

Well-known Takilma resident Patrick Farley, 64, died in a single-vehicle traffic crash on Interstate 5 near Myrtle Creek on Saturday, March 15, according to The News-Review in Roseburg.

His vehicle flipped several times before coming to rest in a ditch beside I-5 near Weaver Road. Farley was southbound at approximately 5:45 p.m. in a white 1988 Toyota Corolla. He moved into the left lane and drifted into the center grass median, witnesses reported.

Farley then jerked back onto the freeway and overcorrected his steering, sending him across both lanes and into the gravel and grass on the right side of the freeway, said James Cooper, who witnessed the accident while northbound on I-5. Oregon State Police said that he was ejected from the vehicle.

Police have not determined why Farley’s vehicle left the road, said OSP Sgt. Steve Mitchell. Once the vehicle left the pavement, Cooper said it flipped four or five times before coming to rest in a ditch some 100 feet from the freeway near milepost 106.

Farley suffered severe injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Mitchell said that Farley did not appear to have been wearing a seatbelt.
