Bob & Lelo Kerivan of Bridgeview Vineyards Winery were honored as 2007 Citizens of the Year by Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber held its annual awards dinner at the Junction Inn on Saturday night, March 15. The Kerivans were recognized for their continued support of the valley community and surrounding area.

The Business of the Year award went to Crystal Kaleidoscope of Selma. Co-owners Louis Swisher and Carol Butcher were not present, as they are on a buying trip.

Special Recognition Awards were given three persons, all of whom graduated from Illinois Valley High School, went to college and returned to work in the valley. Recognized were:

*Ted Crocker Jr., who operates Crocker Financial Services in Downtown Cave Junction.

*Jann Taylor, a former Lorna Byrne Middle School school teacher and Evergreen Elementary School administrator, who now is curriculum director for Three Rivers School District.

*David Valenzuela, who has made education his career and now serves as principal at Evergreen Elementary.

An Architectural Excellence Award went to Home Valley Bank for its new Cave Junction Branch. The plaque was accepted by Dawn LeGaux, branch manager.

Architectural awards also went to Radio Shack/CJ Video Mart, and Siskiyou Community Health Center. Representatives of the two locations were unable to attend the event, which was attended by 100 persons.

The chamber issued a Good Samaritan award in memory of Tom Green. A former CJ mayor, who operated “Tom’s Home” to assist youngsters, Green was murdered Dec. 10, 2007.

The award was accepted by current Mayor Tony Paulson. He said that the plaque will be hung in the city council chamber.

Also among those attending the annual event were District 3 Rep. Ron Maurer (R-Grants Pass); Josephine County Commissioners Dave Toler, Dwight Ellis and Jim Raffenburg; Jody Wainwright, president-elect of the Grants Pass Chamber of Commerce; and Paul Walter, of newswithviews.com.

Past I.V. Chamber President Alice Crocker received her past president award, and handed the gavel to new President Don Moore. A PowerPoint presentation prepared by Ted & Alice Crocker about the chamber’s achievements was well-received.

Jim Frick, a chamber board member and broker at Century 21 Harris & Taylor, served as master of ceremonies. He was assisted by Dulcie Moore, chamber secretary and office manager.
