Longtime Cave Junction resident Pat Hammer is the featured artist at Sterling Savings Bank in Cave Junction during March and April.
The exhibit contains many paintings in her favorite medium of oils, and they are quite different from her well-known water colors and greeting cards.
Hammer studied art for three years in Los Angeles after graduating from Illinois Valley High School. As a teen-ager she always loved drawing. After marrying and raising a family she resumed her painting career in 1970.
In 1971 a group of artists decided to form a formal entity that became known as Illinois Valley Fine Artists Inc. Since 1976 Hammer has been president of the group that meets weekly to paint and share creative ideas.

“Creativity helps me to connect with myself and my sense of purpose,” she reflects. Each painting is a unique project to enjoy and to share with others.
Many of her paintings have been sold to area residents as well as out-of-town guests. Her popular greeting cards are available at Cabin Chemistry, next to Stevereno’s Restaurant.
Hammer notes, “I paint every Monday with the Fine Artists group and love the fellowship. The public can come and enjoy us at work or to join us. We have a business meeting on first Mondays, and meet at the RCC Kerby Belt Bldg. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.”

The group also sponsors art workshops, live modeling, outings for “plein air” painting, and occasional parties. The coffee is always on.
