From our weekly issue dated February 6, 2008
Illinois River Valley Arts Council (IRVAC) is sponsoring its fifth annual winter fund-raiser Sunday, Feb. 24 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Deer Creek Center, 1241 Illinois River Road, in Selma.
“Our purpose is to gather the community for a lively, fun-filled afternoon to benefit our two primary programs: Learning Through Art (LTA) and Second Friday Art Walk,” said Dorothea Hover-Kramer, IRVAC president.
She added, “The Winter Gala will feature wonderful live music, fine food by Kate Dwyer Catering, a cash-bar featuring Foris Wines; and to top it off, silent and live auctions of distinctive art, crafts, and services donated by local artists and businesses.”

The lineup of musicians: Tim Wallace and Michelle le Comte of Oregon Little Big Band fame will play Jazz and Pop; Anwyn and George Leverett will share their “Around the Hearth” music with Celtic harp and Old World instruments; Jen Ambrose, well-known singer/ songwriter from Grants Pass, will offer Folk, Blues, and world music; and I.V. String Band will round out the afternoon program.
IRVAC is the sole sponsor of the LTA project which works closely with Lorna Byrne Middle and Evergreen Elementary schools to enrich children’s learning.
“We’re proud that LTA has recently been awarded two grants in the face of fierce competition,” said Hover-Kramer. “We need to demonstrate community support to these grantors by raising matching funds.

“We also need help from the public to cover expenses generated by Second Friday Art Walk, which offers wonderful arts experiences to the community each month from April through December.”
Nearly all aspects of IRVAC activities are accomplished by volunteers, including organizing Winter Gala. The steering committee consists of Judy Hoyle, Cate Bendock, Bonnie Campanoli, Alice Pace, Linda Naydol and Helen Roxborough.
Advance tickets, with a lesser price than the door price, can be purchased at Evergreen Federal Bank in Cave Junction or Evergreen’s main branch in Grants Pass.
“We’re asking folks to buy tickets at Evergreen Bank as soon as possible so we can best plan for seating and refreshments,” said Hoyle. “We’ll be auctioning everything from gift baskets to gourmet meals delivered to homes, as well as a special dinner for two at Oregon Caves Chateau.”
