Nice neighborhoods
From Linda Schluter Tedder
Cave Junction
There has been an issue in the city of Cave Junction of one family (renters) which has been the object of numerous reports of roaming dogs (pitbulls) drunken teen-agers and adults, vandalism, unlicensed ATV/HOV, trespassing, and verbal abuse to other neighbors, and more.
We were told that enough reports would start the wheels rolling for eviction. We even have a DVD recording of the trespassing on properties clearly posted “No Trespassing.” This is also a situation of what the property looks like when potential new buyers are viewing a possible future home to buy.
The junk cars in the neighboring yard are a real turn-off to a possible sale. I would think that the city council would really want to keep up the neighborhoods and help make them inviting for people to live here.
Unity, constitutional rights
From Roy Lemke
Cave Junction
Unity is becoming more and more important to defend what American rights we have left.
The greedy, tail-spinning, malignant government is rapidly attempting to remove, not only our Second, but eventually all our amendments and rights. They’re covering over amendments, one, then another.
The present government makes it almost impossible for the little man or woman to stand up in court. My deceased wife once had a drunken driving ticket. She fought it in court. I watched the jury and listened. Every one of them had lost a friend or family member from a drunken driver. I don’t drink. A stacked deck if you ask me. She lost her case, but the judge said to my wife and me, if it had been up to him, she would have won.
Our forefathers and mothers went through Hell to get away from this type of government overseas.
Our government and our U.S. Constitution were created to not only protect us, but generations following. If we lose our constitutional rights, all the tears, sweat and pain, and blood of our forefathers and mothers will be for nothing.
How sad to see the “American Dream” deteriorating so fast. It is a painful event for me. I am a Vietnam vet from ‘70-’71. Bullets touched my hair on both sides of my head. But God was with me that night.
My wife, Anita, and I have a teepee, and we play our drums and other musical tools. We need to heal our planet. I see counties over-populated, no septic systems, which contaminates the water: No water, no humans.
We want to help our planet heal in a peaceful way. We sing and play music to “Mother Earth.” We are two True Americans, and hope that others will join us.
He’s for Ron Paul
From James Walmsley
Cave Junction
Not sure why you should vote for Ron Paul for president? Following is a report by Diane M. Grassi, dated May 4, 2007. Her report is at
renewamerica.us/columns/grassi/070504.
Those who read it might want to think of how they are going to explain to all our children how they lost a free America and let the One World Order/North American Union consume this once great nation like an insidious cancer.
Now that Rudy Giuliani has withdrawn as a presidential candidate and thrown his support to John Mc Cain, who can imagine him as director of Homeland Security in a McCain administration?
We already know McCain’s position on illegal immigration. He spells “amnesty” h-u-m-a-n-e. And after all, he does have a track record. Ron Paul is the only candidate whose platform is the U.S. Constitution. It is still the law of the land, and he has a 20-year record of votes supporting it.
People can go to www.blackboxvoting.org and become informed. Then they could contact all local and state officials demanding that we go back to hand-counting paper ballots with absolutely no form of electronic vote counting, auditing, and forwarding including any modem.
Canada and Australia still use hand-counted paper ballots with no problems. America used to. Speed over accuracy is not acceptable.
‘Airport smoke screens’
From Steve Lyons
Cave Junction
It is very frustrating to read articles that contain misinformation and scare tactics as in the Letters to the Editor and articles by Roger Brandt about Illinois Valley Airport.
I thank Illinois Valley News for exposing some of this in the Jan. 30 issue on page 10. Those who missed it should go back and read it.
First, no one is trying to upgrade the airport to accommodate huge aircraft. However, if some had their way, it would be downgraded.
Second, one fellow wrote that 747s would be landing here. The runway cannot handle that.
Third, Sue Lily wrote that the airport would be fenced (why isn’t it?), buildings, parking and trees removed and deafening big planes landing. B.S.
So who are the principals here besides the commissioners and airports manager?
1. The smokejumpers, who have my utmost respect. They have tried to rent/lease the whole airport instead of starting with the parachute loft and office.
2. The smokejumper museum group, Roger Brandt and IVCDO, (a Clinton program that wouldn’t go away as planned.) Now IVCDO is moving into I.V. Visitor Center, pushing I.V. Chamber of Commerce into a back room. The chamber is the tourism workhorse.
3. The anti-growth, anti-progress, anti-logging, etc. left-leaning protesters who, if smoke-jumping was still going on, would be protesting the smokejumpers. I would suggest that people not believe rhetoric spewed as truth, and that they check facts.
I.V. Lions Club bouquet
From Ted Mikels
Cave Junction
I appreciate the Lions Club of Illinois Valley for its support. I just moved my mother here from Arizona after she suffered a heart attack and needed her family to help her.
After getting her here I discovered she needed medical supplies that help with everyday living. After pricing them, I remembered my friend, Sam Michel. Heis the one in charge of the I.V. Lions Club medical supply warehouse across the street from his house.
I saw him in town, and asked if he could help. He replied that it would be a pleasure to provide what my mother needed at no cost whatsoever. What a great feeling it is to know that they are here for us in the valley.
I went to the warehouse and he hooked us up. Thank God for the I.V. Lions Club. If anyone is in need, it is your friend indeed. Just don’t forget to return anything you borrow if it is not being used. God bless America.
We want to hear from you!
