CRACKIN’ CRABS - All-you-can-eat Dungeness crab will be featured Saturday, Feb. 2 when Kerby Belt Lodge 18 presents its sixth annual Crab Feed. The meal will be held at the Kerby Belt Bldg. with two seatings. Tickets will not be available at the door; they can be obtained from Yanase Jewelers in Kerby, or Redwood Service Center in Cave Junction, across from River Valley Restaurant. GROUNDHOG BENEFIT - Saturday, Feb. 2, Groundhog Day, will mark a special benefit for Jacqui Van Tassel, who is undergoing treatment for cancer. A bazaar will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; followed by a spaghetti feed with live music by Pacific Auracle from 5 to 7 p.m. The events will be held in the Josephine County Bldg. in Cave Junction. GOT MEAL TICKETS? - Monday, Feb. 4 is the deadline for reservations for the annual Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce awards dinner and dance Saturday evening, Feb. 9. The gala gathering, with music by Jefferson, will be held at the Junction Inn’s Boswell Room. Menu offerings are prime rib, chicken, or vegetarian plate. Anyone can attend. Besides a State of the Chamber address by President Don Moore, the 2007 Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year will be announced. Tickets are available at the chamber office in I.V. GRAD NIGHT GATHERING - A meeting of the 2008 Grad Night Party Committee will be held Monday, Feb. 4 at the I.V. High School cafeteria beginning at 5:30 p.m. Senior students and their parents are encouraged to attend. FLOAT YOUR BOAT - A Boat Exam Day will be hosted by Josephine County Marine Patrol Saturday, Feb. 9 at Aura River Center, 209 Merlin Road. Hours will be 9 a.m. to noon, said Marine Deputy Ernie Fields, of Josephine County Sheriff’s Office. “Bring your boat with all required equipment and paperwork,” he said. “All 2008 boating literature and regulations will be available.” For additional information phone Fields at 474-5125.

ROLL OF HONOR - An opportunity is offered to World War II veterans who want to submit their names for inclusion on the Roll of Honor at the New Orleans WWII Museum. Valley resident Celia Lettis will be at Illinois Valley Senior Center (IVSC) Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to noon with the required forms. For those whose schedule doesn’t fit those dates, forms can be picked up at IVSC by Friday, Feb. 15.

LIBRARIES BOOSTED - The inaugural fund-raising concert at Rogue Theatre in Grants Pass, to benefit Josephine Community Libraries Inc. on Saturday, Jan. 19, netted more than $9,600; bringing the total amount raised to nearly $60,000. The concert was co-sponsored by The Daily Courier, Hart Insurance, Home Valley Bank, Dutch Brothers, and Rogue Theatre.  Because of them, every penny of every ticket sold went directly to fund the reopening and operation of the libraries in Cave Junction, Grants Pass, Williams, and Wolf Creek.

NOTEPAD - IVHS cheerleaders will serve Saturday, Feb. 2 during the monthly breakfast at I.V. Senior Center. See the ad in this issue … Winter Gala, to benefit art education programs in the valley, will be held Sunday, Feb. 24 at Deer Creek Center by Illinois River Valley Arts Council.
