Wednesday, Dec. 12
*A man in the 400 block of Caves Hwy. said at 4:54 p.m. that it was too dark to see people causing a disturbance.
*Some $700 worth of damage and lost inventory was reported at Weeping Spruce after the owner found the front door smashed.
*Someone made a woman uneasy by calling several times about her church.
*Someone was camping behind a CJ business without permission.
*Lights were on but no one was in a vehicle at the south end of CJ at 10:49 p.m.
*A man on Crickett Lane claimed he could hear bullets whizzing past. No crime was detected; the shooter said he was doing so safely.
*A stolen car was recovered in the 30000 block of Redwood Hwy.
Thursday, Dec. 13
*When a vehicle at a Selma business was checked shortly after midnight, a woman’s license was seized.
*Domestic violence in Kerby was reported at 1:13 a.m. Those involved separated for the rest of the night.
*No deputy was available when an alarm sounded at a CJ bank. “Janitor error” was found to be the cause of the alarm.
*On Caves Hwy. a man claimed that his grandmother was trying to kill him by running into him with her walker and hitting him with her cane.
*There is a continuing problem with a man who sleeps behind a CJ business.
Friday, Dec. 14
*There was a complaint from the 300 block of Caves Hwy. at 12:07 a.m. that a woman in a walker was chasing a man and hitting him with a rolling pin. Subsequently, Richard W. Wagner, 47, was arrested on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
*Men near Six Mile Campground out Illinois River Road were warned about an expired firewood-cutting permit.
*Jonathan F. Nemoede, 25, was cited on Illinois River Road on a charge of having no insurance, and warned for expired registration.
*Someone caused an estimated $500 damage to a pump while stealing irrigation equipment on Westside Road.
*When an intruder alert sounded on Old Stage Road no deputy was available. However, the alarm was found to be caused by employee error.
*A two-vehicle crash with three injured persons was reported on Hay’s Hill at 7:13 p.m. No one was transported.
*Domestic violence on Althouse Road included an intoxicated man and a firearm hidden inside a woodstove.
*Someone lying in bed accidentally dialed 911 from Dick George Road.
*In Kerby, Melissa Lowenstein, 41, was cited and released under warrants.
*Some men inside the CJ Post Office were told to move on at 10:29 p.m.
*A man phoned from rural CJ to state that his daughter was “off the beaten path” and “going crazy.” He was scared of her.
Saturday, Dec. 15
*On Laurel Road a landlord was advised of tenant rights after a complaint that the tenant was being harassed. The landlord felt he was the victim.
*Following a 4:06 a.m. alarm at a CJ business, the alarm company was told that no deputy was available.
*A drunken lout caused a problem with an employee at a CJ business at 11:02 a.m., then he left and lurched down the road.
*Some sort of harassment was reported in the 29000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 5:30 p.m., and subsequently the complainant was unhappy with deputies for some reason.
*Children playing with a telephone dialed 911 from Hummingbird Road.
*On Althouse Road, Stephen Lance Coley, 50, was cited on charges of fourth-degree assault and harassment.
*No damage was found at Evergreen Elementary School after a “suspicious vehicle” was reported at 11:03 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 16
*Someone contacted at 1 a.m. at the south end of Cave Junction wasn’t wanted.
*A “suspicious” vehicle was reported at Lake Selmac at 2:06 a.m.
*For some reason, according to a complainant, a man at a CJ store threatened him with a baseball bat.
*A rural CJ daughter was “beyond parental control” and voluntarily agreed to transport for medical aid.
*James R. Simmons, 59, was cited on a charge of damaging government property off Crooks Creek Road.
*Three people were warned on Briggs Valley Road for operating ATVs on pavement.
*A man on Briggs Valley Road was warned for failure to validate a Christmas tree tag.
*The owner of a CJ business found a purse in her dumpster. The purse had been stripped of its contents.
*A deputy helped extinguish a campfire at Illinois River “Forks” State Park.
*Heavy snow out Little Grayback Road seemed to figure in a single-vehicle, noninjury crash.
*While checking Evergreen Elementary School at 7:40 p.m., a deputy found an employee working late.
*In Cave Junction, Harvey Herbert Peters, 47, was cited on charges of driving uninsured and driving while suspended. His vehicle was impounded.
*Someone crashed into a utility pole and then drove away without leaving any information near 911 Dick George Road. Debris on the roadway caused a passerby to suffer a sprained ankle.
*Various areas of the valley were patrolled in the late evening hours.
Wednesday, Dec. 18
*On W. Schumacher Street at 12:10 a.m. a vehicle was stopped. The driver was found not impaired, but he was warned for failure to use a turn signal.
*On Holton Creek Road at 12:56 a.m. a driver was warned for speeding, and at 1:20 a.m. a driver on Caves Hwy. was advised to carry proof of insurance.
*Theft of a utility trailer the night before was reported in the 28000 block of Redwood Hwy. It was unclear whether a $1,200 shed on the trailer also was missing.
*“Handled civilly” was the report after a Pinewood Way complaint that a roommate moving out had taken some items that weren’t his.
*Following a complaint that an intoxicated woman was becoming abusive, Melissa J. Lowenstein, 41, was arrested on a charge of criminal trespass in Kerby.
*“Large-caliber” gunshots were reported in the vicinity of E. Lister Street and N. Caves Avenue around 8 p.m.
*Community Oriented Policing was conducted at several valley locations between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.
Thursday, Dec. 19
*Several Cave Junction locations were patrolled in the predawn hours.
*Following a 911 hang-up call from Oregon Caves National Monument at 1:55 a.m., no contact could be made, although further efforts were made via radio transmission.
*“Unfounded” was the determination after a call from a woman in a hospital claiming that her purse had been stolen, but that it was at her home.
*There was a call from Lone Mt. Road that a balding man with a paunch walks along yelling obscenities and threatening to harm a woman.
*After leaving his ATM card in the machine, it (the card) was gone when a man returned to Cave Junction.
*No crime was listed “at this time” after a girl, 15, told her father in Kerby that her boyfriend, 19, might have gotten her pregnant. She has lived with him approximately a month, her father said.
*Because he wanted a ride to Grants Pass, a man in O’Brien apparently caused a disturbance so a deputy would respond. He (the man in the disturbance) had been drinking. It doesn’t appear that he was given a ride.
*A Selma resident was unhappy at 8:24 p.m. because he could not immediately obtain a report about an accident that occurred at 4:20 p.m. He said that he wants to sue the other driver. He was told that he’d have to wait for the report to be written.
*Two Cave Junction girls apparently were assaulted by four other girls. Text messages apparently were sent by the suspects about beating the two girls, but the suspects were not located. Medical attention apparently was refused, and the parents of the two girls didn’t want to pursue the matter.
*A father and son were reported hitting each other in the 29000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 11:42 p.m. They separated for the evening.
Thursday, Dec. 20
*There was a deer departed in the 3400 block of Rockydale Road, said a man who accidentally struck the animal with his vehicle around 7:30 a.m. Josephine County Public Works was to be notified for removal.
*When a Laurel Road residence alarm was activated at approximately noon, the alarm company was advised that no deputy was available. The alarm subsequently was canceled by the complainant.
*California resident John M. Crawford, 20, was cited at the Page Mt. Snow Park for not having a Sno-Park permit.
*In Takilma a driver was warned at 3:30 p.m. for failure to maintain lane.
*On Eight Dollar Road near Redwood Hwy., a man with a gun was contacted.
*Someone thought that there were suspicious people at Rough & Ready Lumber Co. at 7:27 p.m., but they turned out to be employees.
*A man who smelled like beer, an open bottle of rum, and several people besides the beer man were contacted after a vehicle “slid off the road” near milepost 22 of Redwood Hwy.
*In rural Grants Pass on Williams Hwy., a man complained that $11,700 in cash was missing from a spare bedroom. He thinks some cleaning employees took it.
*Thumping, banging and a lot of booms were reported by a caller on Hogue Drive at 11:07 p.m. People were contacted and turned down their music.
*Today and during other days in this report, various drivers were warned for infractions including faulty vehicle lighting, and driving too fast for conditions/VBR (violation of the basic rule).
