Tropical Island Tans has moved and is settled into a new location in Downtown Cave Junction at 131 N. Redwood Hwy. adjacent to Nacho Mama’s.
Tropical Tans owner JoAnn Scroggins had been planning on moving the business from its previous location. She wanted to make room for a hair-and-nail salon already incorporated within the tanning salon and retail shop.
“I really wanted this place to feel more like a spa,” said Scroggins. She has been able to do exactly that with the move from 800 square feet of space to a location with 2,000 square feet of space. Much work has been put into the new store so that the place will have the look and feel of a day spa similar to those found in larger cities.
Hours are Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments for hair and nails can be set outside regular business hours to accommodate customers; phone 592-2510 for availability.
Scroggins has owned Tropical Island Tans for five years. Her youngest daughter coaxed her out of retirement to open the salon by encouraging her to look at some available space, and which ended up being the previous location.
“It was a struggle when I realized that I had leased the space and had no idea how to obtain tanning beds, what licenses were needed, and what kind of training I had to complete,” Scroggins said as she recalled the birth of the business. She’s come a long way, and is a successful member of the Illinois Valley business community.
Gift certificates for all the services offered at Tropical Island Tans, as well as many of the other items available for purchase in her store, make excellent holiday presents and stocking stuffers. Items include women’s apparel from junior sizes to women’s size 16, Faux brand handbags, accessories, and tanning accelerators to name a few.
Located inside Tropical Island Tans is Nails by Kris. Kris is talented with holiday nail designs and has a wide array of colors from which to select. Tropical Island Tans also is proud to welcome its new resident hair stylist, Renee, who has long been a resident of Illinois Valley, but previously worked for salons in Grants Pass.
In spring 2008 Tropical Island Tans plans to add services for facials, waxing and full-body wraps.
