Tom Green

Longtime Illinois Valley resident Tom Green, 70, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 in Cave Junction.

A memorial service beginning at 9 a.m. will be held Saturday, Dec. 22 at Bridgeview Community Church with Pastor Frank Salerni officiating.

The memorial also will allow time for discussion regarding Green’s wishes, location of any family members and related legal matters, and a planned memorial scholarship fund. (See story elsewhere in this issue).

Funeral arrangements are pending at Illinois Valley Funeral Directors.

‘Marty’ Case

Marsden “Marty” Case, 63, of Cave Junction, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.

Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret E. Yeckley

Cave Junction resident Margaret Ellen Yeckley, 85, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007 at home.

A private service was held with mausoleum entombment at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to the American Lung Association, Oregon Chapter, 7420 S.W. Bridgeport Road, Suite 200, Tigard OR 97224.

Mrs. Yeckley was born on Oct. 20, 1922 in Logansport, Ind. She graduated from high school in Niles, Mich. On Oct. 26, 1940 in Hastings, Mich. she married Homer E. Yeckley, a former mayor of Cave Junction, who preceded her in death. In 1983 she moved from California to Cave Junction.

Her hobbies included playing bingo and cards. She also loved flying.

Surviving are a son, Terry Yeckley, of Marathon, Fla., seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Hazel L. McIntosh

Hazel L. McIntosh, 83, of Cave Junction, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 at her home.

A family service will be held at a later date. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by five sons; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Alma B. Hulsey

Former Illinois Valley resident, Alma B. Hulsey, 96, of Tracy, Calif., died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 in Hughson, Calif.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at Hull & Hull Chapel in Grants Pass. Officiating was the Rev. Terry Bess, a longtime family friend. Interment followed at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass.

In lieu of flowers, the family said that contributions can be made to Alexander Cohen Hospice House, 2202 Euclid Ave., Hughson CA 95326; or Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95204.

Mrs. Hulsey was born on Nov. 14, 1911 in Dierks, Ark., and lived near Wright City, Okla. In 1950 she and her husband, John, moved to Cave Junction, where they raised their family. In 1997 she moved to Tracy to be with family.

Mrs. Hulsey was known for always being ready for a fishing trip or a game of dice. She loved gardening, and many enjoyed the flowers that she shared, as well as canned soups and vegetables. In her later years, she enjoyed a day at a casino, where she always seemed to have the family luck.

She is survived by her children, Faye Bunch, of Oakley, Calif., Norma Jean Arnold, of Tracy, Ruth Shutes, of Bellingham, Wash., Dale Hulsey, of Modesto, Calif., and Scott Hulsey, of Tracy; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a son, Harel; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert L. Root

No service is planned for former Selma resident Robert L. Root, 86, of Grants Pass, who died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 at his home.

Southern Oregon Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. Remembrances may be made to Asante Hospice, 2825 E Barnett Road, Medford OR 97504.

Mr. Root was born on April 18, 1921 in Vacaville, Calif. to Frank & Hazel Root. He worked as a Greyhound Bus Lines driver for 38 years. In 1980 he moved from Santa Rosa, Calif. to a ranch in Selma and later to Grants Pass.

Surviving are his wife, Grace Root, of Grants Pass; three sons, Ronald Root and Terry Root, both of Tacoma, Wash., and Robbie Root, of Jacksonville, Mont.; a stepson, Dan Newell, of Hidden Valley, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Zerelda Walton, of Grants Pass; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hull & Hull Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
