Barlow meeting could come to CJ
From our weekly issue dated December 12, 2007
Nonagenda items were the topics during the Cave Junction City Council meeting Monday night, Dec. 10 in city hall. Councilor Lynne Atteberry was absent due to a medical situation.
Councilor Don Moore was given the opportunity to explain his county planning commission vote in opposition to holding a meeting in Cave Junction Jan. 14 that will involve Barlow Sand & Gravel’s request to start aggregate mining off Holland Loop. In response to a question by Kerby resident John Bowler, Moore stated that the county facilities in Cave Junction are inadequate for such a gathering.
He noted that he has since talked with Mayor Tony Paulson about using city hall for a meeting, and that Paulson had agreed.

The council voted 4-0 to write a letter of support for the Illinois Valley Section of the Boys & Girls Club. It is facing an uncertain future due to financial problems. Paulson said he anticipates that Executive Director Scott Thornhill of the I.V. Section will use the letter to show community support to the club’s national representatives.
The council also voted 4-0 to suspend all future zoning clearances and occupancy permits for homes scheduled for construction in the Belleau Woods Subdivision on the north side of the city until drainage issues can be addressed. Paulson said that developer Michael Masters has failed to respond adequately to the concerns, and feels that the move will ensure a quick response from the developer.
A 1987 Chevrolet city pickup truck was voted into surplus 4-0. It has been replaced and will be sold to the highest bidder. The surplus truck is a 1-ton vehicle with a cargo box. Bids can be submitted to city hall.
The council also voted for a letter of support for the Back Country Horsemen. The group is building a trail southwest of town. (Story in next week’s issue).
