Music, arts and tasty foods will spread holiday cheer during this season’s final Art Walk in Downtown Cave Junction on Dec. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Sponsored by Illinois River Valley Arts Council (IRVAC), this holiday Art Walk is said to promise a seasonal medley of good listening music and a generous array of holiday gift items and tasty foods.

Art Walk, said IRVAC, is a dynamic gathering of the community’s contributing merchants, artists, vocalists and restaurateurs.

Illinois Valley High School’s Chamber Singers will be among the featured entertainment. Conducted by music instructor Shawn McKee, the group will present holiday music as it strolls through downtown. The Chamber Singers also will serenade diners at Nacho Mama’s at 6 and 7 p.m. And welcoming singers and ArtWalkers, the restaurant will offer a full dinner menu.

Continuing the theme of “Celebrating Our Youth,” River Calendar 2008 will be available at I.V. Visitor Center. Developed by students in Julie Barnes’ art classes, sales of this calendar are a fund-raiser for the high school and offer the opportunity to encourage budding artists.

Taylor’s Country Store will feature a Western night. Along with its regular menu, special meals and music by Jefferson, there’ll be an 1880s shoot-out re-enactment by Spurs and Satin from Grants Pass.

Said IRVAC, “Works from a large variety of artists will not only bring pleasure, they’ll offer opportunities to purchase unique holiday gifts.

“Why suffer crowds and settle for chain-store stuff when you can find specialties such as Robin Patterson’s wreaths and dried floral arrangements, Ryan Drake’s portraits, Jake Salas’ wood- working, Perry Pullen’s whimsical scrollsaw creations, Johnnie Walker’s pottery, Rebecca Pearson’s collaged ornaments, Barbara Leon’s animal spirits, Michelle Pankey’s bejeweled ornaments, photographs by Carol Baker; and handcrafted jewelry by Nora Price, Margaret Connery, Sandra Fluck and Michele Horton.”

All that and more will be offered during Second Friday Art Walk. Additionally, Ali Madjdi will play acoustic guitar at Sassy’s Imports, and refreshments will be served at Changes Art Gallery, An Artist’s Way, Upstairs Art Gallery, and Jefferson State Financial Group.

“With all these exciting events, the Arts Council wishes to acknowledge Rebecca Pearson who is completing her seventh year of spearheading Art Walks,” said IRVAC. “Rebecca inspired a whole new understanding of the arts and was instrumental in bringing them to our community.

“With her retirement from the position, the Arts Council will be developing plans for next season beginning in April 2008.”
