Mix holiday shopping and a good time with family and friends during the Winter Evening of Art & Wine in Kerby on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 3 to 6 p.m.

From the gorgeous turquoise and zircon jewelry featured at Yanase Jewelers on the north, to Darn Near Everything on the south, all kinds of holiday cheer can be enjoyed by visitors.

Culinary Creations by Linda (chocolate-lovers beware), available as samples and in gift boxes, and hot chocolate and cider, will add to the fare at Yanase Jewelers. Parking is available just north of the Yanase studio.

Adding the season’s joyous music as they visit the featured locations along the way, carolers from the Illinois Valley High School Choir members will begin a tour of the route at Yanase’s, from 3 to 3:15 p.m.

At 3:20, they will sing at It’s a Burl, where special Christmas desserts will add holiday tastes to the rich variety of burl and rustic wood art and furniture available at Harvey & Joy Shinerock’s unique landmark.

Directors of Jefferson Baroque Orchestra (JBO) will perform at Kauffman Wood from 3 to 6 p.m. Jim Rich, founder and artistic director of JBO, will sing and play 18th century woodwinds accompanied by JBO Music Director Margret Gries, harpsichord. Gries has performed widely throughout the Northwest and Italy, and taught organ and harpsichord for many years at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.

Her harpsichord has just been reunited with its lid, which returned from a four-month round-trip to Ravenna, Italy, where it received an opulent oil painting of a nautical scene. It includes the brig Lady Washington and the American privateer schooner Lynx, two 18th century-style vessels on which Rich regularly crews.

For those who can’t make it to Kauffman’s, the
lid paintings can be viewed at elisabettalanzoni.com.

At Kauffman Wood’s historic storefront, Helen & Delbert Kauffman’s guests will enjoy their beautiful log furniture, and nonalcoholic wine from Draper Valley Vineyards.

Across the way from Kauffman’s, The Dovetail Joint in Kerby’s 1907 Masonic building will feature Jerry Work’s latest woodwork, Bridgeview wines, and plenty of conversation about woodworking design and tools.

After a stop at those two historic buildings, the IVHS carolers will move south along Hwy. 199 to perform at Kerbyville Museum. Visitors can enjoy a Victorian Christmas at the Stith-Naucke house built in 1871.

Visitors to the period-furnished home will be offered cookies and apple cider. Also, copies of a history book of the area, suitable as a Christmas gift, will be available.

The carolers will complete their tour with a stop at Hampton’s Rock Shop, at Hwy. 199 and Finch Road, and a final performance at Darn Near Everything, the new addition to Kerby businesses and the Art & Wine event.

Kathy and Mike Blakeley will greet visitors with holiday taste treats and their huge collection of “darn near everything,” recycled art from many eras.

The Hamptons are featuring opals of all kinds this month, as well as Ammolite, a naturally iridescent fossilized shell of an ancient animal, the ammonite.

Across from Hampton’s, in the RCC Belt Bldg., event sponsor Southern Oregon Guild will open a new Winter Holiday Show in its Guild Gallery.

Featured artists are Guild jewelers Skye Dillon, Mary Reynolds, Gabrielle Hampton, Bobbie Blakely, Morning Dove Rhodes, and Michael Yanase, showing special pieces for the holidays. Other new work, from new and old exhibitors, will further enrich the show.

In addition, visitors can ring in the season by joining Jackie Farless and Joyce Abrams in impromptu sing-along caroling as well as enjoying the Guild’s hors d’oeuvre buffet and holiday show.
