RCC Band will present Fall Concert in GP on Dec. 1

From our weekly issue dated November 28, 2007

Directed by veteran, award-winning musician T. Lund, of Cave Junction, the Rogue Community College Band will present its free, public Fall Concert Saturday, Dec. 1.

The free program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Rogue Bldg. on RCC’s Redwood Campus in Grants Pass.

The orchestra will perform selections of Corelli, Bach, Mozart, Brahms and Debussy. It also will perform two selections for the holiday season during its approximately hour-long concert.

“It will be a time of beautiful classical music, and we’re looking forward to a big crowd,” said Lund.

Lund is the orchestra’s new director. He has lived in Josephine County since 1993, when hired by Three Rivers School District to be music director for Lorna Byrne Middle School and Illinois Valley High School in Cave Junction.

A fight with throat cancer caused his early retirement from the school district in 2005.

Lund is an active trombonist, conductor, and music education clinician throughout Rogue Valley and around Oregon.

Regarding the Dec. 1 concert he said, “There will be a special donation container at the door for anyone wishing to help our orchestra find funds to purchase percussion equipment, music stands and music. The college does not fund this music program, except for the instructor’s time. Therefore we must raise the funds ourselves in order to improve our sound and function in the community.”

Lund added, “The orchestra is always looking for more musicians to enhance our program. We encourage all those ‘former’ musicians (‘You know who you are’) to retrieve those instruments in your attic and join us.

“Remember,” Lund said, “this is a ‘class,’ and credit is available through RCC.”
