Robert Gifford
Robert Gifford, 73, of Selma, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 at a Grants Pass nursing home.
A funeral service was held at First Baptist Church of Selma with Pastor Monte Pope officiating. Private interment was at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Stephens Family Chapel, of Grants Pass.
Mr. Gifford was born on Feb. 15, 1934 in Eureka, Calif. to Ernest & Agnes Gifford. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1957. He moved to Southwestern Oregon in 1999.
He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, reading his
Bible, and attending church services. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Selma.
Mr. Gifford is survived by his sisters, Doris Johnson and Phyllis Turek, both of California; and three children, David, Laurel, and James.
Brinda L. Bowers
Brinda Lynne Bowers, 48, of Selma, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007 at Three Rivers Community Hospital (TRCH) in Grants Pass.
Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 19 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors chapel. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Remembrances may be made to Southern Oregon Special Olympics, 290 N.E. C St., Grants Pass OR 97526.
Mrs. Bowers was born on Dec. 22, 1958 in Trona, Calif. to Elvy Lee & Barbara Ann (Weimer) Robinson. In 1976 in Downey, Calif., she married Richard J. Bowers Sr., who survives. In 1983 she and her family moved to Selma from Pasadena, Calif.. From 1996 to 2000 she worked as a Phelobotimist II at TRCH.
As a family, her husband and two children were active with Special Olympics. She traveled with nine Olympians to Eugene to compete in basketball, bowling, track & field and baseball. She also was a gleaner to obtain food for lower-income families.
Besides her husband, Richard Bowers Sr., of Selma; survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Bowers, of Grants Pass; her son, U.S. Army Sgt. Richard Bowers Jr., of Fort Drum, N.Y.; her mother, Barbara Carlson, of Cave Junction; two brothers, Michael Kristopherson, of Cave Junction; and John Kristopherson, of New Jersey; and two grandchildren.
Her brother, Lee Robinson, died on Sept. 18, 2007.
