‘Ginger’ Cherry

Former Illinois Valley resident Virginia M. “Ginger” Cherry, 87, of Medford, died Nov. 10, 2007 in a foster-care facility in Medford.

Per her request, there will be no service. Cremation has been conducted.

Mrs. Cherry was born Virginia Huber on Oct. 4, 1920 in Billings, Mont. Her family relocated to Medford when she was quite young. She attended schools there, including what is now South Medford High.

In high school she met Robert D. “Bob” Cherry. They were married in Los Angeles on June 20, 1938.

The couple lived in Medford for many years before moving to Illinois Valley in 1953. They lived there for many years, being active in the community and raising a family. After retirement the couple spent summers in Cave Junction, and winters in Palm Springs, Calif. They moved back to Medford in 1995.

Surviving are her husband, Bob Cherry; a son, Ron; a daughter, Pam; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many friends.

Nancy Louise Collins

Nancy Louise Collins, 77, of Cave Junction, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007 at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.

The rosary was recited Friday, Nov. 9 at Chapel of the Valley L. B. Hall Funeral Home in Grants Pass. A Mass was celebrated Saturday, Nov. 10 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Grants Pass with the Rev. Peter O’Brien presiding. For condolences to the family use www.chapel-valley.com

Mrs. Collins was born Nancy Louise McCarty on Nov. 29, 1929 in San Mateo, Calif. On Jan. 29, 1951 in Fresno, Calif., she married Earl Watson Collins, who survives.

She spent many years in her youth and younger years on Indian reservations in New Mexico and Arizona, helping Native American Indians. Known as an excellent mathematician, she was a successful bookkeeper, tax preparer and real estate agent. She also provided child-care and had worked at ESAM Electronics in Grants Pass.

Said her family, “She was a generous person, helping family and friends in any way she could. She donated her time at hospitals, assisting with babies, and spent many years caring for her sister. She enjoyed sewing, all kinds of animals, especially dogs, traveling and being with her grandchildren. She loved learning, and considered herself a life-long learner by reading and talking to people, so as a result she was an excellent conversationalist.”

She was a member of St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church in Cave Junction, and Illinois Valley Senior Center.

Besides her husband, survivors are two sons, Blaine Collins, of Saffern, N.Y., Brian Collins, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and three daughters, Becky Simmons, of Seattle, Bonnie Mark, of Cave Junction, and Maribeth DeGrandis, of Grants Pass; and eight grandchildren.

Pamela E. Cooper

Pamela Elaine Cooper, 61, of Kerby, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at the Cave Junction chapel of Illinois Valley Funeral Directors, which is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cooper was born on Jan. 10, 1946 in Tulare, Calif. to Clifton & Berthe Terry. When she was 3 months old her family moved to Grants Pass. She grew up there, and attended schools including Grants Pass High School.

On Oct. 1, 1962 in Grants Pass she married Harold “Dale” Cooper and together they had four children. She owned and operated Cooper Construction Cleaning for more than 30 years. Around 1997 she and her husband moved to the Kerby area.

Her hobbies included gardening and spending time outdoors in Nature. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Darcie Worthington, of Grants Pass; three sons, James Cooper, of Grants Pass, Paul Cooper, of O’Brien, and Stephen Cooper, of Cave Junction; her mother, Berthe Armstrong; two brothers, Roy Terry and Mike Terry, all of Grants Pass; and three grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Harold “Dale” Cooper; and her father, Clifton Terry.

Robert E. Gifford

Robert E. Gifford, 73, of Selma, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 at a nursing center in Grants Pass.

Billie S. Peterson

Billie Sharron Peterson, 66, of Selma, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.
