TURKEY NUMBERS - Cave Junction Lions Club will conduct its third annual Turkey Bingo time Saturday, Nov. 10 in the county building in Cave Junction beginning at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5. There will be door prizes, raffles and refreshments. Each winner of 14 games (25-cents per card) will receive a certificate for a turkey. The final game will be a blackout, and the winner will receive an entire Thanksgiving dinner.

PRAISE & THANKSGIVING - An All-Congregations Evening Service will be held Sunday, Nov. 11 at 6. The speaker will be Pastor Mark McLean, of Fountain of Life Assembly of God Church. The theme of the service is from Psalms 100:4-5. It reads in part, “Enter His gates with Thanksgiving, And His courts with praise. Give Thanks to Him.”

FUN, FREE FOR ALL - The 20th annual auction by Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce will be held Friday, Nov. 16 at Wild River Brewing & Pizza Co. in Cave Junction. There will be wine-and-beer tasting starting at 6 p.m., plus the usual enjoyable, amusing time with Jim Frick, of Century 21 Harris & Taylor Real Estate, as auctioneer. Anna Swett, of Anna’s Attic, will serve as clerk for the auction, which will begin at 7. Many I.V. and Grants Pass-area merchants and organizations donate items for the auction, and there will be plenty of bargains. There is no admission charge, and anyone can attend without obligation to bid. The beverage tasting will be provided courtesy of Wild River, Foris Vineyards, and Bridgeview Vineyards Winery.

Donations of auction items are sought by Thursday, Nov. 15. Phone 592-3326 or take items to Northwest Hairlines on Lister Street across from the CJ Post Office.

NOTEPAD - A Christmas Bazaar with 36 booths will be held at Illinois Valley Senior Center on E. River Street Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be available … Five days off for public school students will result, as Thursday and Friday, Nov. 8 and 9 are designated for no classes, and Monday, Nov. 12 is another holiday because of Veterans Day. Plus, students and staff will get off four days for Thanksgiving ... CJ City Council will meet Tuesday, Nov. 13 instead of Monday the 12th, as city employees will be off work the 12th for Veterans Day ... Illinois Valley News will be distributed on Tuesday, Nov. 20, instead of Wednesday the 21st because of the Thanksgiving holiday on Nov. 22. The deadline for all items remains at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 … Summer tourists at I.V. Visitor Center decreased from 14,137 during summer 2006 vs. 10,604 this year, notes I.V. Chamber of Commerce ... Monica Burtley, of Grants Pass, placed first in the National Rifle Association’s 2007 Youth Wildlife Art Contest.
