Grayce Evelyn Hudron

Cave Junction native and lifetime Illinois Valley resident Grayce Evelyn Hudron, 90, of Cave Junction, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007 at home.

A funeral service was conducted Thursday, Oct. 25, at Laurel Cemetery Chapel in Cave Junction with Walter Freeman conducting. Interment followed at Laurel Cemetery. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Grayce was born Dec. 26, 1916 in Cave Junction to James and Katherine (Kirch) Lewis on the ranch where they lived off Holland Loop. She attended grade school, junior high school and high school in Illinois Valley and had lived in Cave Junction all her life.

On Oct. 12, 1935 in Grants Pass, she married Joseph Hudron, who preceded her in death. She worked for the former James Boys Home on Holland Loop for one year, and for the Oregon Caves Information Center for 13 years.

She was a member of Western Star #64 in Kerby for 72 years, and Shamrock Squares Dance Club for many years. She also served as president and a board member for Laurel Cemetery Association for many years.

Grayce loved cats, enjoyed life and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed playing piano and local history.

Surviving her are a niece; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Roger P. Smith

Roger P. Smith, 81, of Selma, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass. Arrangements are pending at Stephens Family Chapel in Grants Pass.

Lisa D’Ann Mifflin

Former Cave Junction resident Lisa D’Ann Mifflin, 44, of Brookings, Ore. died Oct. 17, 2007 at her home after a long illness.

A private service will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be made to a church of the donor’s choice.

Cremation is under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel in Brookings.

Ms. Mifflin was born April 30, 1963 in Loma Linda, Calif.  She was raised and educated in Southern California and Oklahoma.

Following high school graduation in Pryor, Okla., she returned to Southern California and worked for a private security company. She met Mary Margaret Allen in Hemet, Calif. in October 1991, and they became devoted life companions. They lived in Cave Junction from 1999 to 2002, then moved to Brookings.

Ms. Mifflin was known as a kind, generous and caring person, who would share freely with others in need.  She was a Christian, and was the family “Prayer Warrior.”

She had a mechanical aptitude and enjoyed tinkering with and repairing cars. She also was a devoted reader of the Bible, enjoyed watching Christian TV, traveling, and spending time with, and talking on the phone with her family.

She loved dogs, and had a favorite canine, “Buddy.”

Surviving are her parents, Peggy & Tom Levering, of Cave Junction; her biological father, Harry Mifflin, of San Bernardino, Calif.; a sister, Anita Callahan, of Grants Pass; three brothers, Cliff Mifflin, of Huntington Beach, Calif., Jim Ryan, of Shell Knob, Mo., and Doug Ryan, of Grants Pass; an aunt and uncle; five nephews; and two nieces. She also leaves behind her life companion, Mary Allen, of Brookings; and her daughter, Sara Allen, of Loma Linda, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank & Maudie Gregg, and H.C. & Evelyn Mifflin; a brother, Randy Callahan; and a nephew.

Myra Lee Siemer

Former Selma resident Myra Lee Siemer, 74, died Oct. 13, 2007 at the home of one of her daughters in Manteca, Calif.

She was interred next to her husband’s grave on Oct. 18 at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Siemer was born on Jan. 17, 1933 in Portland, Ore. She spent her childhood in Coos Bay and Napa Valley. She married Harry Siemer Aug. 22, 1951 after he completed his tour of duty during the Korean War. He died on Aug. 21, 1989 after 38 years of marriage. They had moved to Selma in 1984.

Surviving are the couple’s children: Theresa Simons, of Anchorage, Alaska, Steve Siemer, of Cave Junction, David Siemer, of Grants Pass, and Julie Speed, of Manteca; her sister, Joan Hasson, of Placerville, Calif.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many longtime friends.

Parkview Cemetery & Funeral Home, of Manteca, was in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Helen Pettit

Catherine Helen Pettit, 56, of Selma, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.

A private service was held. Southern Oregon Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pettit was born on May 28, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio to Mike and Annelise Horvath. She moved from Lincoln City to Selma in 1997.

She loved music and had a beautiful singing voice and played guitar. She also enjoyed thrift store shopping and fishing, especially on the Illinois River. She was known for her gentle spirit.

Surviving are daughter, Jennifer Pettit, of Portland, Ore., a brother, Steve Horvath, of Talent; and two grandchildren. She also leaves behind her companion, Joseph Sanati, of Selma.
