Rainy season is nearly here, and it is time to curl up with a good book and a hot cup of tea.

Think -- The Book Exchange and Tea Cozy in Cave Junction has more than 35,000 paperback and hardcover books at 50 percent off the cover price.

Book topics include New Age, religion, self-help, reference, travel, do-it-yourself, crafts, novels, and children’s and adult’s books. Also historical books of this area, classics, romance, history, genre fiction, suspense, and true crime.

Not to mention fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, Westerns (including Louis L’Amour), and lots of cookbooks, gardening, natural healing, and Nature books. Other topics include mushrooms, birds, music, acting, painting, and pets.

Advertisment:

When buying a used book with an original price of $6, Book Exchange’s price is $3. If you prefer recycling your own books, you can use trade-in credit of one-fourth.

Those interested can order new books with 50 percent payment in advance, and balance due upon delivery. Orders arrive within a week normally; although orders from outside Oregon may take two weeks. New books cannot be marked down because of being special orders.

Selected books are available for $1 and $2. They are displayed outside, weather permitting, on Fridays and Saturdays.

Accessories include bookmarks, magnetic note cards for refrigerators, notepaper, greeting cards and magnifying glasses.

Besides an amazing collection of books, the Tea Cozy offers teas and accessories, including teapots of many themes. They range from apples to kitty cats. And there are cups, strainers, paper filters, packaged bagged and canned tea, and approximately 100 kinds of bulk tea.

“You just have to come in to see it all,’ said the proud new owner, Diane
Mc Manus, who bought the shop Aug. 31. She and her husband, Patrick McManus (not the famous humorist) moved from Ventura County in California two years ago when they inherited several acres in Cave Junction after her husband’s parents died.

Diane’s husband, Patrick, came into the Book Exchange to find a volume, and noticed a “For Sale” sign in the window. Diane said, “I just got it in my mind that I would like to be doing this. It was getting too hard to work on the ranch,” she said with a laugh, “but this is just as hard work.”

In their spare time, the couple enjoys bird-watching and entering their classic motor vehicles in car shows. Recently their 1957 Chevy Nomad won Best in Class at a show.

Diane’s Book Exchange and Tea Cozy, located in Western Plaza Shopping Center at 228 N. Redwood Hwy., is open Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Phone 592-3689 for more information.
