ROSARY RECITAL - To celebrate the 90th anniversary of “The Miracle at Fatima,” members of the rosary group at St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church will hold a public Rosary Rally for Peace on Saturday, Oct. 13. The gathering will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on the parking lot at the new Home Valley Bank branch across from Treehouse Florist & Gifts in Downtown Cave Junction. Our Lady of Fatima is the title given to the Blessed Virgin by those who believe that she appeared to three shepherd children at Fatima, Portugal on the 13th day of six consecutive months in 1917, starting on May 13, the Fatima holiday. FOOD FOR THOUGHT - Josephine County Food Bank is collaborating with the Home Builders Association of Josephine County for its annual Fall Home Improvement Show & Builders Garage Sale. Both will take place on the weekend of Oct. 13 and 14 at the Josephine County Fairgrounds in Grants Pass Events will last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Admission is free, but attendees are asked to bring two cans of food each.
WHEREWITHAL - Free clean clothing, including shoes, will be available Saturday, Oct. 20 at Takilma Bible Church, 10343 Takilma Road. The church, which conducts the no-charge event twice yearly, will have items available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

OLD GLORY STORY - The American Legion Magazine reports that Minnesota has passed a measure to ensure that all U.S. flags sold in that state are made in the USA. Penalties for selling foreign-made flags include 90 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine. Other states have similar laws. The magazine notes that during 2006 $5 million worth of U.S. flags were imported from China. That’s down dramatically from the $29.7 mil from China in ’01.
