Minnie A. Kihs

Minnie A. Kihs, 90, of Kerby, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 at Illinois Valley Chapel. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Jean E. Underwood

Jean Elizabeth Underwood, 71, of Cave Junction, a pioneer of the Blackberry Festival, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007 at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. at her home at 4641 Dick George Road. It is a celebration of her life; everyone is welcome to tell their favorite stories about her.

Mrs. Underwood was born Oct. 12, 1935 in Hershey Pa. She married Ray Underwood in 1961. They moved to Cave Junction in 1968 and lived in Kerby. After leaving for several years she and her husband relocated to Cave Junction to live out their retirement.

Mrs. Underwood was an active member of many different clubs and charities through
her life including Lions Club, Illinois Valley Grange, Rebekah’s, Oddfellows Lodge, and Illinois Valley S.A.L.T. Program site manager (meals on wheels). She was one of the first people on the committee to develop the Blackberry Festival in Cave Junction.

She was known as a friend to everyone.

Mr. Underwood died in 1996. Mrs. Underwood is survived by her son, Lloyd C. Underwood; two grandsons; and a granddaughter.

‘Mike’ John

Cave Junction resident Lloyd Michael “Mike” John, 72, died Sept. 18, 2007.

He was born on June 23, 1935 to Albert and Rosemary John in  Yakima, Wash. He grew up in Los Angeles, Calif. and served in the U.S. Army.

He married Terry L. John on Feb. 21, 1991. He enjoyed being around his loved ones and all his animals. He also liked fishing, camping, horseback riding, gardening, yard sale hunting and long walks in the woods. He was known as a loving husband, friend and father.

He is survived by his wife,  Terry John; and his  son, David John, both of Cave Junction; two daughters, Linda Bos, of New Mexico, and Lesley Vallin, of California; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
