Eliminating unwanted hair easily, safely, with the Soft Touch

The benefits of electrolysis are not only aesthetic.
Restoring self-confidence, eliminating embarrassing ingrown hairs and minimizing the occurrences of adult acne with permanent hair removal procedures are among some of the additional benefits of electrolysis.
The licensed electrologists at Soft Touch Electrolysis & Skin Care are former registered nurses. They have found what they provide to be a satisfying and enjoyable career in the fine art of permanent hair removal.

Nancy Aroian, owner of Soft Touch Electrolysis & Skin Care has been a licensed electrologist for eight years, and has recently become a licensed estotician as well, she said.
Besides electrolysis sessions, Soft Touch Electrolysis & Skin Care offers facials, facial peels, foot detoxification (which allows clients to see the foot spa water change color by drawing out the toxins from the body), and reflexology.
Jennifer Chase, the newest licensed electrologist, is a partner at Soft Touch and operates in the same location under the name of Soft Touch II Electrolysis. She said that she recently completed a 600-hour program to obtain her Oregon licensing.
“(Clients) realize just how much time, effort and embarrassment they’ve endured resulting in low-level stress,” said Jennifer. “They get this huge confidence boost when they get rid of that extra hair.”
Electrolysis itself has been around for 130 years and is the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal.
“The process begins with an assessment because everyone’s skin is different,” said Nancy. “So we have to adjust what we do according to what is brought to us.”
At the end of this consultation the goal is that the client has a full understanding of the procedure and can make an informed decision as to whether or not they would like to proceed. Nancy says that 95 percent of her clients are excited about the procedure and cannot wait to begin.
But if a client decides against continuing with the procedure they are not financially obligated for the consultation in any way, she explained.
A tiny wire probe is inserted into a hair follicle (no new opening is made). Once the probe is in place the machines automatically apply a miniscule amount of electrical current, which destroys the dermal papilla where the hair receives nutrients.
In most cases the dermal papilla is destroyed in the first treatment, and once this takes place new hair cannot grow from this follicle again, Nancy said. The sebaceous gland (oil gland) also is located near the dermal papilla. Once the dermal papilla is destroyed, the sebaceous gland which causes acne is frequently damaged as well and can no longer continue to produce acne from that gland.
“At the end of the procedure, most people have a tiny bit of redness,” Nancy said. “If a person is really sensitive they might have a little bit of swelling, but it usually goes away within 20 to 30 minutes,” notes Nancy.
There is a product line of Loving Touch Skin Care items, manufactured specifically for Soft Touch Electrolysis and Skin Care. They are available for purchase at Soft Touch Electrolysis and will help with swelling, redness and general skin health, she explained.
According to Nancy:
“Many people say that electrolysis is a lot more tolerable than when people pluck or wax. The reason is that these methods of hair removal actually make the problem worse. By plucking or waxing unwanted hair, the tissue surrounding the hair is damaged.
“The body’s natural response is to produce additional blood vessels going to the site. These blood vessels soon provide additional nutrients to build up the tissue and create stronger, more resistant hair. That hair has become thicker and has a sturdier root, which damages the tissue around the hair when it’s removed by tweezers or wax the next time.
“Of course, all of this happens over a slow progression of time,” Nancy continues, “but a lot of women after 10 to 15 years (have done so much damage) that maybe they started out spending five minutes a day, or even five minutes a week now have to spend hours and it’s just horrible for them.”
Soft Touch Electrolysis and Skin Care is located at 207 Greens Creek Road in Grants Pass. Phone (541) 479-2222 for an appointment. Hours of operation are by appointment to help suit client’s schedules.
“We start out with a client and that client becomes a friend,” Nancy says, “because we literally work ourselves out of a job.”
