Wednesday, Aug. 29
*At six past midnight, a boy, 17, was warned at Hwy. 199 and W. River Street about driving too fast, and warned about the tow ordinance.
*Heather Dawn Gaw, 23, was cited at 17 past midnight at Hwy. 199 and Waldamar Road on charges of driving uninsured, and driving while suspended (DWS). She was warned for speeding, and her vehicle was impounded.
*Extra patrol was provided in the wee hours at Ray’s Food Place in Selma.
*Around 1:19 a.m. a deputy contacted a 50-year-old woman outside a Cave Junction church.
*Out Illinois River Road, at Six Mile Campground, a man complained that someone smashed a window on his car and took CDs valued at $100. It will cost $250 to replace the window, he said.
*At 1:28 p.m. a woman in the 9000 block of Takilma Road reported that a neighbor was waving a gun at her and threatened to shoot her. He believed she had his keys.
*Reported at 4:08 p.m., a boy, 8, was stabbing a wall with a knife at his Cave Junction home. His mother got him under control, and said they’d see a doctor.
*Despite a report of domestic violence in progress in the 29000 block of Hwy. 199 at 5:21 p.m., it was determined unfounded. The woman involved had injuries, but witnesses said that they were from a previous fight with another woman and from falling. She had been drinking, and was said to be emotionally disturbed.
*The woman in the previous incident was reported at 7:08 p.m. as having returned to the scene and broken a window on a car. It was her car.
*Alexander Gordon Best, 27, was cited in the 9000 block of Takilma Road on a DWS charge. His vehicle was impounded.
*In the 7000 block of Rockydale Road, a man, 27, was warned about faulty lights on his vehicle.
*Lots of yelling and a struggle, but no crime, occurred in the 100 block of Hogue Drive at 8:59 p.m.
*Concern about her brother was expressed by a woman at a Cave Junction watering hole. She said that he had been driving while intoxicated.
*Emergency personnel responded to a Caves Avenue residence at 9:53 p.m. because of a boy, approximately 13 years old, lying unconscious along the road. Much conflicting conversation ensued with him and other intoxicated teen-agers at the scene.
*Theft of a $1,500 log-splitter and a $300 rifle was reported by a man on June Drive. He has suspects in mind.
*When a deputy checked someone going in the rear of Illinois Valley High School at 10:45 p.m., it turned out to be an employee.
Thursday, Aug. 30
*In Cave Junction, a woman claimed that a contractor was shooting at her and her mother.
*There was no evidence of a crime related to child welfare in the 29000 block of Hwy. 199 despite a disturbance the previous night.
*In Selma, a FedEx driver reported that he saw a boy opening mail boxes in the area of Hogue Drive and Warren Road. He (the boy) might have had a dog.
*Following a reported assault in the 24000 block of Hwy. 199, during which a woman suffered a bloody nose at the hands (or hand) of a “highly intoxicated” man, a report was pending.
*No one was around what looked like a crashed car at Holland Loop and Hays Cut-Off at 8:34 p.m.
*Subsequent to an alarm at a residence at the south end of Cave Junction, the residents said they’d been having alarming problems.
*Yelling and screaming, plus profanities, were complained about in the 9000 block of Takilma Road at 9:20 p.m.
*Disorderly conduct involving loud music and a screaming woman were reported in the 9000 block of Takilma Road at 10:09 p.m.
*Assistance was rendered following a report of a dead Lab-type dog in the 24000 block of Hwy. 199.
*Way out Illinois River Road at McCaleb Boy Scout Ranch, a tree was keeping a vehicle from going over an embankment. The two people in the car were able to take care of the problem.
*On Holland Loop, apparently near the Sucker Creek Bridge being replaced, a wrecked car and 40 feet of damaged fence were located by a property owner. An insurance company was going to step in.
*American Medical Response (AMR) and other emergency personnel responded to the Junction Inn at 11:15 p.m. after a woman phoned to say that she was going to commit suicide. She voluntarily surrendered and was taken to a hospital.
*Some genius made a “prank call” from Kerby, reporting a theft in progress.
*Someone felt the need to steal a 1986 Chevy van from an O’Brien home.
Friday, Aug. 31
*One gunshot, described as “huge,” was reported in the 1900 block of Lone Mountain Road at 1:14 a.m. The complainant said that he also had received two hang-up calls.
*Community Oriented Policing (COP) was logged at 2:19 a.m. at Illinois River “Forks” State Park.
*At 5 a.m. a man reported that a “mountain lion” ran in front of his vehicle near 900 Caves Hwy. and ran near some houses. He added that dogs were barking.
*After becoming irate at the DMV office in Cave Junction in connection with documents for ID, a man, 71, “banged his fists on the desk, cursed at the complainant, and told her to kiss his ass as he left the building.” He was “trespassed” and will have to conduct DMV business elsewhere.
*Several mail boxes were damaged by whiz kids at Upper Deer Creek and White Creek roads.
*Some sort of harassment situation was logged at 8:39 a.m. in the 37000 block of Hwy. 199.
*Yelling and upset people were reported in the 29000 block of Hwy. 199. No crime was detected.
*People and vehicles were checked at Bolan Lake Campground off Happy Camp Road.
*In an attempt-to-locate request, a rural CJ resident said that his estranged wife took their young son away, possibly in early July.
*For the fourth time, mail boxes were damaged on Upper Deer Creek Road by persons of superior intellect and demeanor.
*Consternation was expressed regarding a woman in the 29000 block of Hwy. 199, as she said that she’d shoot anyone who came into her bedroom. The call was cleared with no indication of foul play, and a report to be sent the Oregon Dept. of Human Services.
*A man with long hair in Takilma was reported weaving while driving at 4:52 p.m.
*Three young men in a car, described as “extremely HBD,” tore away from a man’s driveway in the 6500 block of Hwy. 46 when they saw him looking at them at 5:43 p.m. (HBD is a law enforcement abbreviation for “has been drinking.)
*A CJ resident said that a woman violated a restraining order by climbing through a window and taking his remote control.
*While riding his bicycle, a man discovered a stolen car and a dismantled travel-trailer at the end of Fernwood Drive.
*For some reason, a “Stop” sign was down at Lakeshore Drive and Deer Creek Road.
*Harassing phone calls, where the caller either plays loud music or says “obscene things,” were reported from a home in CJ. The caller has been traced. Prosecution is possible. The calls apparently are related to a family dispute of some sort.
*Although a gate was found unlocked at the Evergreen Elementary School bus yard, nothing seemed amiss.
*Lily E. Toner, 22, was cited on charge of failure to obey a traffic control device at Hwy. 199 and Rockydale Road at 9:50 p.m.
*A boy, 18, was warned about a faulty rear light at 11 p.m. in Cave Junction.
*Loud music was complained about in the (guess where) 9000 block of Takilma Road at 10:38 p.m. There was a caution note that the home owner is known to carry knives. The music was turned down; no knives came into play.
*Masterminds, described as juveniles, were trespassing at Jubilee Park at 11:53 p.m. They had been drinking and left the park on their bicycles headed toward Old Stage Road.
Friday, Aug. 31
*Squealing tires and high speed by someone driving a white SUV were complained about on
Shadowbrook Drive at five minutes past midnight.
*The driver of a white SUV was “doing donuts” and driving like a nut near E. River Street and Old Stage Road at 12:09 a.m.
*At 26 past midnight a rollover accident involving a white SUV was reported in the 1500 block of Laurel Road. The lights were on, but no one was in or around the vehicle.
*Jedediah L. Hardwick, 23, was cited on a charge of disorderly conduct after a 1:05 a.m. complaint from S. Kerby Avenue that a man was “attempting to break in a home by banging on doors and walls.”
*Two drunken boys, one on a bicycle and another with a skateboard, were reported at Jubilee Park at 1:36 a.m. They were said to be hitting cars with their hands. Subsequently, Jeremiah J. Mutina, 19, was cited on a charge of second-degree criminal mischief.
*At 1:52 a.m. a couple said to have young children present on S. Kerby Avenue was involved in a physical fight. One was “tazered” and the other pepper-sprayed. Angela M. Nunley (date of birth not provided) was jailed on a charge of fourth-degree assault. Jedediah L. Hardwick, 23, was jailed on charges of fourth-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and second-degree criminal mischief.
*While with a baby-sitter on S. Kerby Avenue, young children were playing by dialing 911. They were to be warned.
*While riding his bicycle, a man discovered a stolen car and a dismantled travel-trailer at the end of Fernwood Drive, he reported again, apparently.
*California resident Marta Valier, 33, was warned about parking in a handicapped space at Page Mountain Sno-Park.
*Also out Happy Camp Road, at Bolan Lake, Toby Joe Cowie, 33, was cited on a charge of being on a closed road on a motorcycle.
*At Hwy. 199 and Reeves Creek Road at 6:47 p.m. a man, 21, was warned about speeding.
*Californian Kevin Dale Rhodes, 53, was cited at the bottom of Hay’s Hill on a charge of driving 84 mph in a 55 mph zone.
*Several people were contacted, and a warning was issued for illegal parking on E. River Street after a complaint that there was a party, and that the revelers had put cones and buckets on the road to block a lane.
*At Jubilee Park, a girl said that she was trying to keep friends from fighting and that her father broke in and pushed her aside.
*Out Eight Dollar Road at the green bridge, a man, 48, was warned about having an illegal campfire. Another man, 30, was warned for having an illegal flame.
*Some sort of situation involving people fighting and one trying to damage a car was reported at a CJ restaurant at 9:25 p.m.
*Ten to 15 juvenile people were said to be drinking at a party on Hogue Drive at 10:16 p.m. There was no crime listed.
*Another violation of a restraining order was reported in CJ, this time involving a woman who came to get her animals.
*A damaged fence and a wrecked car were found in the 7300 block of Takilma Road at 7:59 a.m. The crash apparently occurred the night before.
*People riding ATVs prompted a complaint from Airport Drive at 10:44 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 1
*Apparently not much happened today.
Sunday, Sept. 2
*Animal Control was to be notified of an Addison Lane complaint involving loose dogs causing problems and “almost getting hit.”
*Near 1 p.m., Jason W. Glendenning, 37, was cited on a charge of driving 78 mph in a 55 zone near milepost 17 of Hwy. 199.
*A camp was checked at Hogue Meadow.
*Charles Derieft Brooks, 59, was arrested at Jubilee Park under a no cite/release warrant from Grants Pass charging failure to appear (FTA) on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
*Several camps near the Eight Dollar Road green bridge were checked, and people there were contacted.
*Near Jubilee Park a woman, 50, was reported to have fallen and broken one of her femurs. I.V. Fire and AMR responded, and she was taken to a hospital.
*William E. Scott, 33, was cited in the 8500 block of Illinois River Road on a charge of having an illegal campfire, and warned about having a dog off-leash.
*COP was conducted at Lake Selmac near 7 p.m.
*Robert James Myers, 37, was arrested in CJ under warrants with charges including FTA on charges of fourth-degree assault and menacing, FTA on charges of third-degree sexual abuse and harassment/touching an intimate part, and FTA on charges of criminal trespass. A new charge of possession of marijuana was to be referred to the county D.A.
*Camps were checked in the 9500 and 10000 blocks of Illinois River Road around 8 p.m.
*When stopped again, on Hogue Drive, a man said he thought that his defective lights had been fixed.
*Someone dialed 911 from a public phone in O’Brien for an unknown reason.
*Emergency personnel responded at 10:31 p.m. to “Forks” Park and resuscitated a man who had overdosed on something.
*A gray car that was “all over the road” near milepost 36 of Hwy. 199 at 11:38 p.m. was not located.
Sunday, Sept. 2
*In Downtown CJ at 12:26 a.m. a man, 21, was warned for speeding.
*COP was conducted at Lake Selmac at 1:24 a.m.
*AMR went to help a boy, 7, who fell approximately 4 feet at Jubilee Park, and had back pain. Medical aid was refused.
*At Jubilee Park, David Wayne Sheldon, 22, was arrested under an Ashland warrant charging FTA on a charge of second-degree possession of a controlled substance/methamphetamine.
*Daniel Zachary Harper, 22, was cited near milepost 20 of Hwy. 199 on charges of not having insurance, and failure to renew registration.
*For some reason, a K-9 deputy and his dog were looking for a shirtless jogger at the north end of Selma.
*In yet another incident in the 9000 block of Takilma Road, Dudley William Gay, 46, was arrested on charges of two counts of menacing, three counts of recklessly endangering, and three counts of pointing a firearm at another.
*On Schumacher Street a woman was said to have a bloody nose after domestic violence at 8:09 p.m. The man involved drove away.
*A definitely juvenile person in a pickup truck was warned on Schumacher Street about his driving.
*King’s Chinese Cuisine reported that someone smashed a large front window. Video tape is being examined. It’s likely that the culprit is among a group that hangs around the area.
*An intoxicated woman was reported trespassing in the 600 block of Hwy. 46.
*Eight people were reported yelling and physically fighting at a residence on Kerby Mainline at 11:47 p.m. However, a deputy listed it as “verbal only.”
Monday, Sept. 3
*Even crime takes off on Labor Day.
Tuesday, Sept. 4
*Some clever person stole a $25 gas cap from a bus at I.V. High School.
*Vehicular hit-and-run was reported at a CJ café.
*A man parked his car with a “For Sale” sign along Hwy. 199 at Patton Bar Road. Today he reported that someone broke in; stole his stereo system; and took the wheels and tires. The loss was listed at $2,500.
*Theft of approximately 30 bucks worth of fuel was reported at U-Haul in CJ.
*Copper solar lights valued at $80 were reported stolen from Arrowhead Drive.
*No injuries were reported in a two-car crash at Hwy. 199 and W. River Street at 4:02 p.m. Drivers were identified as Kathy M. Cox, 28; and Lillia L. Young, 63.
*There was a report that a man threw about a 250-pound radiator at a boy, 15, in Selma, hurting his leg, in connection with a broken window on the thrower’s truck canopy. No charges were filed.
*A car stereo system valued at $1,600 was stolen from a locked car in CJ, and vehicle damage was estimated by the complainant at $300.
*Illegal campers were reported near the Deer Creek Bridge. Two people were warned.
*Again in the 9000 block of Takilma Road, there was a situation. This one involved a woman saying that a man yelled at her and threatened to kill her family. She tape-recorded the happening.
*There was a request from the 9000 block of Takilma Road that a residence be checked due to “suspicious circumstances,” but the house was empty and there was “nothing suspicious,” a deputy reported.
*Someone complained about noise in the 4200 block of Holland Loop at 8:24 p.m.
*Deputies responded at 8:39 p.m. to a Holland Loop home where a man was said to be “tweaking out” and punching holes in the walls. He also called his mother names that aren’t hers. He was said to have guns including an M-16, plus knives and machetes. He left and deputies didn’t find him.
*There was a complaint at 10:54 p.m. from the 5000 block of Westside Road that the intoxicated driver of a pickup truck was shooting
*At 11:31 p.m. a man in an earlier complaint returned home and was fighting with his brother. Logan Jay Wargin, 30, was arrested on a charge of interfering with a 911 call.
