PHOTO FINISH - Some residents of River Valley Village Mobile Home Park on Ollis Road in Cave Junction, weary of vandals and thieves, are ready to shoot them -- with cameras. They suggest keeping a camera with automatic flash handy so that vehicles and crooks can be photographed. “It helps law enforcement catch the bad guys, and scares the heck out of them. They do not like that at all,” said a Neighborhood Watch activist at the park.
‘CRATER’ FREE - In celebration of the 91st anniversary of the National Park Service, Superintendent Chuck Lundy has announced that all visitors will have free admission to Crater Lake National Park on Saturday, Aug. 25. “We hope that this celebration will promote a better appreciation of Crater Lake and why the National Park Service is here,” said Lundy. “National parks belong to the people, and this is one way that we can thank visitors for their continued support.”
SMOKE-EATER SWING - Illinois Valley Volunteer Firefighters Association will hold a three-person scramble at I.V. Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 15. CHORALE CALL - Auditions for the 3 Rivers Chorale will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living at the S.W. corner of I and Pine streets in Grants Pass. Rehearsals will be at the same location on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Selma resident Carol Valentine, formerly of the One Love Spirit Choir, will be the guest conductor/music director for the fall session. There is a fee for the 12-week session. Performances are scheduled on Dec. 8 in Grants Pass and Dec. 9 in Cave Junction. BOGUS CALLS - Josephine County Sheriff Gil Gilbertson reports that residents might be receiving telephone solicitations from a group representing “Police Officers Safety Association Inc.” It claims to provide “free and low-cost education and training” to lawmen, including “local police, correctional police and sheriffs.” Last year, there were complaints of a similar California-based organization conducting phone solicitations in this area, the sheriff said.
