James Edward Renecker
James Edward Renecker, 81, of O’Brien, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007 at his home.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Aug. 12 at Illinois Valley Funeral Directors chapel. Southern Oregon Cremation Services was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Renecker was born May 5, 1926 in North Bend, Ore. to Sherman and Laura Renecker. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. On Aug. 30, 1946 in Vancouver Wash. he married Bertha “Dude” Humphrey. In California he lived in Modesto; and in Oregon he lived in Creswell, Cottage Grove and Central Point before settling in O’Brien in 1972.
His hobbies included fishing, yard sales, playing Pinochle and gardening. He especially loved his family and would do anything for them.
Survivors include his sister, Margie, of Washington, a great-niece, April Clark, of Grants Pass, whom he considered his daughter; three nephews; and three great-nieces and nephews.
His wife, Bertha “Dude” Renecker, died on Dec. 3, 2006; and he also was preceded in death by one daughter and three brothers.

Darrell Dean Orr
Darrel Dean Orr, 77, of Cave Junction, died peacefully at home in his sleep on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007.

Mr. Orr was born in Eureka, Calif. on Aug. 7, 1929 to Mervin and Bessie Orr. He lived his entire life in Northern California and Southwestern Oregon. As a young man he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 until 1952.
He returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Marie Crain. He opened and successfully operated Orr’s Market in Crescent City, Calif. for many years. Mr. Orr was an devoted outdoorsman, a gardener, a teller of many stories, and a kind neighbor to everyone he met.
He is survived by Marie, his wife of 53 years; his three children, Leonard Orr, Sharon Blalack and Ron Orr; a brother, Kenneth Orr; a sister, Beverly Lambert; four grandsons; and three great-grandsons.
Arrangements were directed by Stephens Family Chapel, of Grants Pass.
Vera E. Haviland
Cave Junction resident Vera Elizabeth Haviland, 80, died at home on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007. A graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Illinois Valley Funeral Directors handled arrangements.
Mrs. Haviland was born in Manchester, Iowa on May 19, 1927 to Herman & Katherine Scheel. She graduated in 1945 from Inglewood High School in Inglewood, Calif.
She married Donald Haviland on July 14, 1954. They moved to Cave Junction in 1989. He died on June 20, 2006 after 51 years of marriage.
Her life was her family.
Mrs. Haviland is survived by a son, James Haviland, of Bermuda Dunes, Calif.; four daughters, Linda Robillard, of Darby, Mont., Suzanne Bishop, of Simi Valley, Calif., Diana Hyde, of Whittier, Calif., and Donna Lewis, of Grants Pass; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, John Scheel.
Kenneth E. Garcelon
Former Illinois Valley resident Kenneth Edgar Garcelon, 86, of Fortuna, Calif., died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at Redwood Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 16 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cave Junction from 9 to 9:45 a.m. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. with Father Harry Hallwell officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Cemetery in Cave Junction.

Carol A. Compton
Cave Junction resident Carol A. Compton, 66, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 beginning at noon at Selma Baptist Church. Pastor Monty Pope will officiate.
