Linda L. (Sinkey) Manteufel

A funeral service for Kerby resident Linda L. (Sinkey) Manteufel, 59, who died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21 at Laurel Cemetery Chapel in Cave Junction, with interment following.

Mrs. Manteufel died at home after an eight-month battle against cancer.

Mrs. Manteufel was born on Jan. 30, 1948 in Glendale, Calif. to P.E. & LaVerne Frances (Schmoll) Sinkey. In 1962, when she was 14, the family moved from California to Kerby. She graduated in 1966 from Illinois Valley High School.

She continued her education, earning a bachelor of arts degree in physical education and health in 1970 from Southern Oregon University in Ashland. She received her MBA from the same school in 1978.

She enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two years. On Dec. 25, 1977 in East Peoria, Ill., she married Charles W. Manteufel, who survives.

Mrs. Manteufel worked from 1978 to ‘84 for the Oregon Employment Dept. She then worked as an Adult & Family Services case manager at the state’s Cave Junction office from 1984 to 2000. In 2001 she received a teaching certificate for various schools in Josephine County from kindergarten through 12th grade.

She was a member and president of the former Illinois Valley Kiwanis Club. She also was an American Legion member, and the Cave Junction section of the Josephine County Christmas Basket Program.

Mrs. Manteufel enjoyed collecting cookbooks. She also liked gardening, traveling, and garage sale selling and shopping. And she enjoyed fishing for salmon, halibut and bottom fish and giving her catches to charities.

Besides her husband, Charles Manteufel, of Kerby; surviving are a daughter, Lee-Anne Manzone, of Cave Junction; a son, Charles Manteufel, of Marietta, Okla.; her parents, LaVerne & P.E. Sinkey, of Cave Junction; a brother, Bill Sinkey, of Roseburg; four grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; and two great-nieces.

Another brother, Lee Sinkey, died in 1995.
