Scott Titzler

Scott Kohl Titzler, 57, a former Josephine County deputy district attorney, of Grants Pass, died Friday, June 27, 2007 at his home.

A celebration of his life was held at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors chapel in Grants Pass on Saturday, July 7 with Clay Johnson officiating.

Mr. Titzler was born in Akron, Ohio, and grew up in Palos Verdes, Calif.

After 10 years of college studying marine biology, Mr. Titzler became a commercial fisherman along the Pacific Coast from Oregon to Alaska. He later sold his fishing vessel and moved to Portland to attend law school, obtaining his doctorate of law in 1987. He was an associate at a Portland law firm for three years when he met his wife, Sandi.

The couple moved to Grants Pass in 1990 when he accepted a deputy district attorney position for Josephine County. He remained in that position for 16 years.

Surviving are his wife, Sandi; a daughter, Hetta; his mother, Muriel; a sister, Barbara Ranstrom; and two brothers, Henry Titzler and David Titzler. Mr. Titzler was preceded in death by his father, Hank.

Bonnie Jean Miller

Bonnie Jean “BJ” Miller, 47, formerly of Illinois Valley, died on June 24, 2007 in Portland, after a 14-year battle with melanoma.

Her family plans a memorial service at a later date.  Remembrances in her name can be made to Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital at 1945 N.W. Pettygrove St., Portland OR 97209.

Bonnie Jean Miller was born on Jan. 9, 1960 in Grants Pass.  She lived her early years in Illinois Valley and attended valley schools, graduating from Illinois Valley High School with honors in 1978. “BJ” moved to the Portland area after graduation and lived there until her death.

“BJ” loved cross-stitch, cooking, entertaining and catering friends’ parties, and she created beautiful gift baskets. She loved beautiful yards and homes.  She was employed by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture for 28 years and left many friends and loved ones there.

She is survived by her parents, George Marvin and Sharon Miller, of Kerby;  two sisters, Connie Himes, of Central Point, and Gina Miller, of Lombard, Ill.; a brother, Michael Miller of Eagle Point; three aunts, Carla Duncan, of Newberg, Ore., Katherine Gay Shinkle, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Rita Earl, of Caldwell, Idaho; an uncle, Russell Earl, of Coquille; four grandchildren; many cousins; four nieces and nephews; and a great-nephew.

She also leaves behind good friends including John Jones and Nancy Lyon, of Portland; other dear friends; and her beloved cats, “Idgie” and “Zorro.” She was predeceased by her uncle, Gerry Earl; and her four grandparents.
