Lois Jay Anderson

Lois Jay Anderson, 60, of Kerby, died Friday, June 22, 2007 at a relative’s home.

A funeral service was held Friday, June 29 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors Chapel in Grants Pass with the Followers of Christ conducting. Interment followed at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass.

She was born to Delbert and Edith Rossiter on July 16, 1946 in Grants Pass. She lived her entire life in Grants Pass and Cave Junction. She attended grade school and junior high school, and graduated in the Class of 1964 from Illinois Valley High School.

On April 23, 1966 in Carson City, Nev. she married Jeff Moniz, who died on April 15, 1997. From 1989 to 1997, she and Mr. Moniz owned and operated LJM Rotovating. On June 29, 1998 in Grants Pass, she married Andy Anderson, who died on Sept. 20, 2005. She and her second husband operated Kerby Trailer Park from 1998 to 2002.

She was a member of the Followers of Christ. Her hobbies included reading, traveling, gardening, drawing with chalk and oil painting. She also enjoyed singing and spending time with her family.

Surviving are six daughters, Angela Helbling, of Redmond, Wash., Chris Martin, of Auburn, Wash., Pamela Ackley, of Post Falls, Idaho, and Denise Eells, Betsy Shippy and Donna Warren, all of Grants Pass, Barbara Wright, of Roseburg, and Sherrin Biggs, of Independence, Wis.; her six sons, Michael Moniz, of Las Vegas, Nev., Greg Moniz, of Walla Walla, Wash., Clinton Moniz, of Grants Pass, Ed Wright, of Kerby, Kenny Wright, of Caldwell, Idaho, and Steve Anderson, of Poynette, Wis.; two sisters, Nancy Forthun and Elaine
Parmer, both of Grants Pass; two brothers, Ronald Rossiter, of Cave Junction, and Henry
Rossiter, of Wonder; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Gene Wright, in 2005; and a sister, Cecilia Shippy, in 1987.

Hull and Hull Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

‘Pat’ Snavely

Cave Junction resident William Patrick “Pat” Snavely, 88, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass with family members at his side.

A memorial service was held Saturday, June 30 at Illinois Valley Funeral Directors Chapel in Cave Junction. Pastor Gordon Peterson officiated.

Mr. Snavely was born in Emporium, Penn. He was raised in that area. As a young man he married Martha Carlson, and they had three children: Sally, Sandra, and William “Bill” Patrick II. Mr.
Snavely joined the military in 1941 and spent most of World War II in the Pacific Theater.

After the war, he and his family moved to Nevada to maintain a wonderful friendship with a good buddy from his military days. The family later relocated to California, and “Bill” was born there.

Mr. Snavely went to work for the State of California, and retired in 1980 from Caltrans. His wife died in 1968 at their home in Happy Camp.

He subsequently wed Mary Alice Sharp, resulting in a happy extended family, as she had three children, Eugene, Carolyn and Jerry. The couple traveled frequently to Arizona, and settled in Cave Junction in 1987.

Mr. Snavely enjoyed sharing stories of his life experiences. He and his stories will be missed, his family said.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Alice Snavely, of Cave Junction; two daughters, Sally Barlow and Sandra Bettis; his son, Bill; two stepchildren, Eugene Sharp and Carolyn Kirby; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two sons-in-law; a great extended family; and many great friends.
