EARLY DEADLINE - Here’s a reminder that everything for next week’s issue must be in the I.V. News office by 5 p.m. Thursday, June 28. Next week’s Noose will be out on Tuesday, July 3, a day earlier than usual because of the Fourth of July holiday on Wednesday.

WALDEN TOWN HALL - A town hall meeting next week in Grants Pass with Second District Congressman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) will provide an update on the latest happenings in Washington, D.C. And Walden will take questions and comments from the audience Tuesday, July 3 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Anne Basker Auditorium on Sixth Street adjacent to the county courthouse.

SENIOR ELECTION - Casey Thomas has been elected president of Illinois Valley Senior Center Inc. (IVSC). She replaces Don Fulk, who didn’t seek re-election. Mary Coyne was elected 1st vice president, and Marge Cunningham 2nd vice president. Newly elected directors are Marge Brown, Rod Walker and Sarah Hertel. IVSC members receive a monthly newsletter listing the many activities at the center on E. River Street in Cave Junction. Activities include Wednesday night bingo beginning at 6:30. The organization also operates the Senior Thrift Store in Downtown CJ next to DQ.

PROJECT CREDIT - Photos in the June 6 issue, showing teen-agers working on landscaping at Illinois Valley Visitor Center, were taken by Kathy Lombardo. She, Barbara Hahn and Illinois Valley Garden Club deserve credit for the project.

NOTEPAD - Patriotic music will be played by the RCC Community Band Tuesday, July 3 beginning at 7 p.m. at Riverside Park in Grants Pass … Madrone Adventist Elementary School is looking to add kindergarten to its first- through eighth-grade program, but needs some help. Individuals or businesses that can make tax-deductible donations of paper, art supplies, play equipment, tables, chairs, and PCs and software can phone 592-3330 ... Jim Lombardo, of O’Brien, had a laminated sign made and glued it on the rock monument on Waldo Road to replace the historic Town of Waldo bronze plaque that some brainsick dork ripped off a few years ago. The new sign lasted three days before some other (?) dope stole it … Rogue Valley Flyers, a radio-controlled model aircraft club, will conduct its 17th annual Float Fly at Lake Selmac the weekend of July 21 and 22 ... Boys & Girls Club of Rogue Valley has received a $17,750 grant from Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation. Wolf Creek-based Sunny Wolf Youth Services got $15,000, and 10 grand went to Pacifica: A Garden in the Siskiyous, described as a nonprofit Nature center between Murphy and Williams ... A $100,000 grant during a five-year period from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation has been awarded Eugene-based Rural Development Initiatives Inc. to support its participation in the Rural People, Rural Policy Initiative. It’s based on building and strengthening skilled networks and organizations to advocate and act in the rural policy arena … A panicked man phoned his physician to report that he had just been stung by a wasp. “Put some ice on it,” said the doc. “I can’t,” said the man, “it flew away.”
