Takilma resident Lisa Rohde remembers battling allergies for most of her life as a younger person.
What she subsequently found was that her reactions were due to many of the chemicals commonly found in most households.
“For me, it was a discovery on how to make myself healthier,” Rhode said.
But these days, Lisa and her husband, Justin, have turned her experience into one of the area’s newest businesses, Rogue Natural Living.
Rogue Natural Living carries a variety of items, including carpet shampoo, wood stains, prime, paints, cleaners, water filters and children’s toys.
“There are a lot of hand-carved rattles made with various woods,” Justin said.
The company also carries clothing for adults and children. The cotton used in that clothing is grown without the use of pesticides, and uses nontoxic dyes.
“Organic cotton is hand-picked, and tends to be softer,” Justin said. “And clay colors and materials are an environmentally friendly alternative.”
Lisa is no stranger to the world of organic industry, as she previously worked in the business. That know-how, along with rapidly growing demand, has made it easier for her and Justin to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
“We had a place to start in terms of vision and what products we wanted to stock,” she said.
The couple began operating Rogue Natural Living from their home during February. they hope to have a storefront location in the valley within a year.
Meanwhile, to guide customers to their products they rely on their Website, RogueNaturalLiving.com.
“Our Website is fully operational,” Justin said.
Many of the products sold by the fledging firm are made in the United States. All the rest are manufactured by companies that engage in fair trade practices.
“They are companies that produce products at fair wages to all their workers,” Justin said. “You can feel better about buying from them.”
The couple provides free pickup and delivery to Illinois Valley residents. And they offer discounts to nonprofit organizations.
