A Selma mother of six children died Wednesday afternoon, June 13, when she crashed her vehicle into the rear of a van waiting to make a left turn from Hwy. 199 approximately 9 miles south of Grants Pass, said Oregon State Police.

The victim was identified as Anita Marie Yeoman, 46. Her maiden name is Modrich.

OSP said that at approximately 4 p.m. a 2000 Ford van driven by Julie L. Dunn, 50, from Grants Pass, was stopped on the lane for northbound traffic on Hwy. 199 waiting to make a left turn. The van, painted with Sears markings, was struck in the rear by a 1996 four-door Saturn driven by Yeoman, said OSP.

The impact pushed the van forward, and the Saturn came to a stop on the lane for northbound traffic.

Yeoman was pronounced deceased at the scene. OSP troopers investigating the crash report that she was not using safety restraints, but her vehicle’s airbag did deploy. OSP said that according to witness statements and roadway evidence there appears to have been no attempt by Yeoman to stop before crashing into the van.

Dunn was using safety restraints and suffered minor injuries. She was transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass for treatment.

OSP troopers from the Grants Pass Patrol Office are continuing the investigation.

The crash closed travel through the area to one lane with intermittent traffic allowed through the area for nearly two hours.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Rural/Metro Fire Dept., American Medical Response, and Oregon Dept. of Transportation.
