‘JEFFERSON’ AIR PLAYIN’ - Illinois Valley’s “Jefferson” will kick off the free, live music performances, sponsored by Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce, beginning Thursday, June 14 in Jubilee Park in Cave Junction. The annual Concerts in the Park series shows will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays through Aug. 2. Food and beverages will be available. A STERLING EVENT - Sterling Savings Bank in Cave Junction will host a mixer for Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce on Friday, June 15. The open gathering, for chamber members and guests, will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. There will be refreshments.
EXTREME SPORT PORT - Saturday, June 16 at Jubilee Park is set for the family oriented 2007 I.V. Extreme Sports Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Live music, games, prizes, a children’s carnival and paintball competition are planned. There also will be skateboard and BMX competition, plus free food. There’s an ad in this issue.
DOWNS ARE UP - Grants Pass Downs horse-racing season will begin the weekend of June 16 and 17. Post time at the county fairgrounds site is 12:30 p.m. There is free parking. The nine-day season consists of horse-racing on four consecutive weekends, plus Wednesday, July 4, said Jackie McBee, director of horse-racing. Check the ad.
JUNIOR GOLF ON COURSE - Signups for the minimal-cost Junior Golf Program at Illinois Valley Golf Course for those ages 5 through 15 will be held at the clubhouse Saturday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lessons will begin Thursday, June 21 with the following schedule: ages 5 to 7, 9 to 10:30 a.m.; ages 8 to 10, 10:30 a.m. to noon; ages 11 to 15, noon to 1:30 p.m. That schedule will prevail for five weeks. LABORIOUS THEME SCHEME - Suggestions for a theme for the annual Illinois Valley Lions Club Labor Day festivities are sought. This year’s program, on the three-day Sept. 1 to 3 holiday weekend, will feature the festival in Jubilee Park and the annual parade in Downtown Cave Junction. Business participation in the parade is suggested by I.V. Lions for the exposure and community recognition. Suggestions for the Labor Day theme can be sent to P.O. Box 396, Cave Junction OR 97523. The winner will receive special recognition in “Illinois Valley News.”
WOMEN’S ANTI-VIOLENCE - Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance has announced that it will facilitate a Women’s Domestic Violence Support Group, free and open to the public. The group will begin on July 6 and be held Fridays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Selma. To RSVP phone “Susie” at 592-2515.
