‘Jim’ Dobie
A memorial service for Selma resident William James “Jim” Dobie, 62, who died Sunday, May 27, 2007, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel in Cave Junction.
Bishop Charles Rigby will officiate.
Mr. Dobie died at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass. Private interment will be at Deer Creek Cemetery in Selma.
He was born to William & Belle Pratt Dobie on April 9, 1945 in Oakridge, Ore. Not long after his birth, the family moved to Grants Pass, where he lived for two years before the family relocated to Selma. He attended Selma Elementary School, Kerby Junior High School, and Illinois Valley High School.
Mr. Dobie served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was stationed aboard the USS “Princeton,” a helicopter carrier. He worked 10 years as a mechanic, including three years with Boeing Aircraft Co. Later, he drove log and rock trucks for 28 years.
He was a 50-year member of The LDS Church Cave Junction Ward. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, and watching birds at his feeders.
He is survived by his mother, Belle Dobie, of Selma; and two brothers, Gary Dobie, of Selma, and Brian Dobie, of West Valley City, Utah.
