ACTIVE LIVING EXPO - An event for senior citizens of all ages, Active Living Expo ‘07, will be held Saturday, June 9 at the Ship Ashore Resort upstairs lounge in Smith River, Calif. PARK PEAK PERFORMERS - Free, live music gigs, sponsored by Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce, will begin Thursday, June 14 in Jubilee Park in Cave Junction. “Jefferson” will open the annual Concerts in the Park series. ‘LOVE THAT DAD’ - Lovejoy Hospice is accepting registrations until Wednesday, June 13 for the free Friday, June 15 Fathers Day Memorial Workshop from noon to 2 p.m. at the hospice office, 939 S.E. Eighth St., Grants Pass. The workshop “will guide participants in creating beautiful collages suitable for framing as keepsakes and memorials.” Participants should bring photos of their fathers and any magazines or other items to use as resources for collage material. JUNIOR GOLF TIME - Signups for the annual low-cost Junior Golf program at Illinois Valley Golf Course will be taken Saturday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the course. Youth 5 through 7 can register from 9 to 10:30 a.m.; those 8 to 10 from 10:30 to noon; and those 11 to 15 from noon to 1:30 p.m. That schedule will be in effect every Thursday for five weeks. ‘SAVOR THE VALLEY’ - Due to a schedule conflict, the second annual wine-tasting and benefit auction date for Siskiyou Community Health Center has been changed to July 21. As last year, the event will be held at Bridgeview Vineyards Winery on Holland Loop. Proceeds are used to help support medical and dental services for children in Josephine County. WHERE’S WALDO (PLAQUE)? - O’Brien resident Jim Lombardo, a 34-year Illinois Valley resident, is aiming with his wife, Kathy, to some day replace the stolen bronze historical plaque for the town of Waldo. Some jerks ripped it off from the rock stand on Waldo Road a few years back. Meanwhile, Lombardo is temporarily using a laminated sign at the site. It has all the wording from the original plaque, noting among other facts, that Waldo was the first territorial seat for Josephine County. Waldo existed from approximately 1852 to 1927.
‘CYCLE SAFETY SERIES - The Team Oregon Motorcycle Safety Program is sponsoring a Rider Skills Practice course in Medford on Saturdays, June 16 and July 7. This four-hour course is for all active motorcyclists and emphasizes skills development for cornering, braking, swerving and slow-speed maneuvers. The course also presents street-riding strategies for the special situations that riders face. Student-owned motorcycles are required, and proof of insurance and a valid motorcycle-endorsed driver license are required. Preregistration also is required. There is a fee.
